(AOM Annual Meeting PDW# 10087)
Friday, August 4, 2017 (from 9:45-11:15 AM)
Hilton Atlanta, Crystal Ballroom C,D
Certain mental disorders may exhibit characteristics that allow individuals to perform well in certain tasks or professions. This PDW seeks to stimulate discussion on the potential upsides of ADHD in entrepreneurship, exploring how, and with what effects the very characteristics of ADHD that make it hard to work in a conventional workplace may provide advantages in an entrepreneurial setting, and for whom.
This PDW at the Academy of Management Meeting in Atlanta is comprised of two parts.
In the first part, we will give "teaser" presentations to advocate a focus on ADHD as a means of developing novel insights and theories in entrepreneurship. The following will take part:
Petra Andries, Ghent University
Rebecca Franklin, Memorial University of Newfoundland
Jenny Gibb, University of Waikato
Brian Gunia, The John Hopkins University
Daniel Lerner, University de Deusto
Louis Marino, University of Alabama
Roy Thurik, Erasmus School of Economics, Rotterdam
Wei Yu, Syracuse University
Host: Danny Miller, HEC Montreal & University of Alberta
Following these presentations, we will transition to a World Café setting where presenters and participants will explore together new mechanisms of entrepreneurial motivation and action, using ADHD as a means of developing novel insights. We will also explore future research projects and collaborations.
If you would like to participate in our PDW, please pre-register for the event no later than July 27, 2017.
We look forward to seeing you in Atlanta on Friday August 4 from 09:45-11:15 am at the Hilton Atlanta!
Best regards
Johan Wiklund (Syracuse University), Isabella Hatak (University of Twente), Phil Phan (John Hopkins University), Ute Stephan (Aston Business School)
