[Video] 2018 Best Division Paper (S. Johnson)

By Jean-Charles Pillet posted 08-05-2019 04:54

In this video, Prof. S. Johnson presents the award-winning paper titled "Who Contributes Knowledge? Embeddedness and Marginality in Online Communities", which adresses the tension between the "community of practice" and the "open innovation" perspectives pertaining online community research.

The contribution of the paper lies in the combination of the concepts of "epistemic marginality" from topic modeling and "network embeddedness" from social network analysis. To conduct their analysis, the authors rely on the entire participation dataset produced on the open platform Stack Exchanges from 2010 to 2016.

Enjoy the video!

Note: this video is part of our our "Best Paper Awards" series, which is meant to showcase outstanding work from the members of the OCIS division.
