    Good afternoon!
I have been asked to post the following on behalf of MIS Quarterly. I have no further details.
    Very best,

We are delighted to announce the publication of the special issue of MIS Quarterly - one of the premier journals in the field of information systems - on "The Role of Information Systems and Analytics in Chronic Disease Prevention and Management".

The special issue contains nine research articles that reflect the richness and multi-faceted nature of using information systems and analytics to manage and prevent chronic diseases. These nine papers:

    • examine different chronic conditions (e.g., asthma, diabetes, COPD, depression, chronic heart failure, etc.)
    • address different problems (e.g., readmissions, self-monitoring and third-party monitoring, health costs, emergency room visits, patient-provider relationships, engagement in educational videos, etc.)
    • employ a wide range of theoretical perspectives (e.g., feedback theory, attribution theory, etc.)
    • utilize a wide range of methodological perspectives (e.g., natural experiments, deep learning and other data science methods, qualitative, retrospective cohort analysis, design science, image mining, systematic literature reviews, etc.)
    • leverage a vast array of data sources (e.g., EHRs, social media, online communities, patient portals, telemonitoring logs, YouTube videos, etc.), and
    • four of the papers develop novel AI applications for chronic disease management, ranging from longitudinal risk stratification to deep learning applications to study patient engagement with medical information encoded in videos, to new data-driven frameworks and applications for smart Asthma management.
The special issue is accompanied by an editorial (which can be accessed at https://misq.org/skin/frontend/default/misq/pdf/V44I1/07_14644_SI_CD_BardhanIntro.pdf) that proposes a multi-disciplinary research roadmap to address chronic disease prevention and management based on contributions from social, behavioral, organizational, economic, and design science scholars in the IS community. The editorial leverages the components of NSF's Smart and Connected Health Program, "Connecting data, people, and systems" as a framework to highlight the emerging role of new developments in information systems, particularly in mHealth, and applications of artificial intelligence methods to develop new directions for future research in this important domain.
