    Knowledge-Sharing from MISQ: Computationally-intensive theory construction – April 15/16 2022

Apply here (applications close March 27, 2022):  https://umn.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_eniJU3arSOjJ6Dk

Would you like to know how MISQ editors think about major methodological issues and genres?  If so, come along to our knowledge-sharing sessions to get first-hand insights.

Our third knowledge-sharing session – on computationally-intensive theory construction, on April 15/16 – will follow in the footsteps of our last two sessions - on machine learning and causality.  We will continue covering other genres in future sessions.

We are focusing this session on computationally-intensive theory construction in IS research because we are seeing more submissions using this approach – with the increasing abundance of trace data all around us, and researchers' interest in theorizing from patterns in data – and we are seeing common issues, struggles, and opportunities in the editorial process.

By sharing our insights with you, we hope to increase the chance that authors will be successful with this approach and we likewise want to work with our author and reviewer community to help move the field forward with this approach.

The session will cover issues such as:

    • What this research involves and what logic it uses
    • What fundamental principles can guide authors and reviewers in assessing such work
    • How authors/editors know when a paper has done 'enough' (e.g., stopping rules)
    • And many more…

Come along to learn from our editors, Shaila Miranda, Nick Berente, Stefan Seidel, and Hani Safadi.

Moderated by Professor Andrew Burton-Jones, Editor-in-Chief of MIS Quarterly, come along, listen to our editors, and take the opportunity to ask questions.
