The Department of Management Information Systems in the Terry College of Business at The University of Georgia invites applications for a tenure-track Senior Associate or Full Professor position beginning August 2022.

This position is part of a multi-year Presidential Hiring Initiative across the university which will hire 50 new faculty to develop our research focus on AI and Data Science (https://provost.uga.edu/data_science_ai/). Appointment to an endowed chair is possible depending on qualifications of the successful candidate.

Candidates' research agenda should include AI governance, broadly defined, to promote ethical AI design, use, and outcomes. This may include, but not limited to, addressing such issues as AI fairness, AI bias, AI accountability, AI transparency and explainability, AI trustworthiness, AI security and privacy risks, and AI policy, among others.

The position is part of an inter-disciplinary cluster hiring initiative on social, philosophical, and ethical issues related to data science and AI. The cluster consists of faculty in the arts, humanities, social sciences, and STEM. The new hire will work collaboratively with MIS faculty who have related interests, with other faculty hired for the cluster, and with existing faculty in other departments and colleges to enhance UGA's reputation around ethical AI and towards grants (e.g., NSF) in this space. An interest in assuming a leadership role in the department within the first few years after appointment would be considered a plus.

Qualified applicants must hold a Ph.D. in information systems or a closely related discipline from an AACSB accredited institution or international equivalent. They must also have a demonstrated record of research excellence through top-tier publications in IS or related disciplines commensurate with rank. For information regarding the requirements for each faculty rank, please see the University of Georgia Guidelines for Appointment, Promotion & Tenure at https://provost.uga.edu/facultyaffairs/UGA_Guidelines_for_APT_approved_2_2020.pdf.

The Management Information Systems Department is consistently ranked very highly nationally and internationally for both its programs and its scholarly productivity. Faculty hold editorial positions at the premier information systems journals, and current and emeritus faculty include multiple AIS Fellows and LEO Award winners and INFORMS ISS Distinguished Fellow. The department is quite diverse in terms of gender, race, ethnicity, research traditions, topics of interest, and research approach, and includes 14 full-time tenure-track faculty and six full-time lecturers and senior lecturers.

The Management Information Systems Department offers the following degrees: Ph.D., an online Master of Business & Technology, a BBA in MIS that includes areas of emphasis in data analytics and information security management, and a FinTech certificate. In addition, the Terry College of Business offers an on-campus MBA degree, an on-campus Master of Science in Business Analytics (MSBA) degree, and off-campus Executive/Professional MBA degrees (in Atlanta).
