Dear colleagues,
Deforestation is a serious existential threat. It contributes significantly to climate change; it pushes numerous wildlife species (think Orangutans) to extinction; and it snatches basic human rights and means of livelihood from hundreds of millions of impoverished communities around the world. What causes deforestation? Well, the matter is complex; but businesses, through their supply chains, are responsible for most of it. How can it be stopped? Again, the matter is complex; but our community of scholars can help find solutions.
We are co-editing a special issue of Business Strategy & the Environment, entitled, "Deforestation, Global Value Chains, and Corporate Sustainability." Our aim - and hope - is to engage corporate sustainability, corporate social responsibility, and value/supply chain scholars in finding solutions to this stubborn and worsening problem.
