Despite its scholarly and practical importance, the study of organization design has received relatively little attention from the 1980s until more recently. This was in part driven by the sheer difficulty in collecting accurate data on firms' organization designs and addressing the prickly issue of identifying the causal impact of organization designs on relevant organizational outcomes. However, the study of organization design has recently gone through a renaissance with scholars studying the topic through a variety of novel lenses and using more advanced tools. In addition to the traditional qualitative and archival approaches, scholars have recently leveraged lab/field experiments, formal models, and simulations to provide novel insights into a variety of issues pertaining to organization design. Furthermore, recent advances in machine learning provide an exciting platform for the in-depth study of organization design moving forward. In this PDW, scholars at the leading edge of the study of organization design share the methods that they have leveraged to study this important topic. Participants will get the opportunity to ask questions to the panelists and engage in a discussion of the future of the study of organization design using these exciting methodological approaches.
On the registration form of the AOM PDW system, attendees will be asked two questions that will help us to address relevant topics and issues during the PDW. In order to register you need a pre-approval code. Please email
