Strategy/Entrepreneurship Ph.D. Program at the University of Texas at Arlington

The Department of Management at UT Arlington is inviting applications for the Ph.D. program in Strategy & Entrepreneurship for Fall of 2020 (https://www.uta.edu/academics/schools-colleges/business/programs/phd).

    • The UT Arlington College of Business has offered the Ph.D. in Business Administration degree for more than 30 years and has graduated over 200 doctoral students.
    • The college offers high-quality, academically rigorous doctoral programs that prepare students to conduct relevant research on a wide variety of business issues.
    • All UT Arlington business programs, including the Ph.D. in Business Administration, are accredited by The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).
    • UT Arlington is classified by the Carnegie Foundation as a "Doctoral/Research University-Highest Research Activity (R1)." College of Business faculty members are active researchers, and many are internationally recognized for their scholarly achievements.
    • The DFW area has a population of around 5 million and is home to many Fortune 500 company headquarters. This fertile business environment provides many opportunities to work closely with companies on important business problems and research topics.

    Strategy/Entrepreneurship Field of Study

Those who receive a Ph.D. in Strategy/Entrepreneurship from the Management Department are trained to critically evaluate existing research, translate and disseminate research knowledge and conduct their own original research.

A primary form of training occurs in one-to-one working relationships with faculty members on current research projects, from which jointly-authored papers are submitted and published in the field. Our faculty is committed to collaborative, collegial student-faculty interactions that often lead to longer-term research partnerships.

The Strategy/Entrepreneurship faculty have published extensively in top scholarly journals such as  Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, Journal of Business Venturing, Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Management, Management Science, Organization Science, Strategic Management Journal, and Strategic Organization.

    The current Strategy/Entrepreneurship faculty include:
    • Ann McFadyen (PhD Strategic Management, Texas A&M University)
    • Jeff McGee (PhD Management, University of Georgia)
    • Liliana Pérez-Nordtvedt (PhD Strategy and International Management, University of Memphis)
    • Abdul Rasheed (PhD Strategic Planning and Policy, University of Pittsburgh)
We are excited to welcome two new Strategy/Entrepreneurship faculty for Fall 2020:
    • Pyayt Oo (PhD Entrepreneurship, Washington State University)
    • Owen Parker (PhD Strategic Management, Indiana University).
An applicant who is a non-native speaker of English who wishes to be considered for funding by GTA or Fellowship must submit test scores which include a score on the Speaking section of the TOEFL iBT of at least 23 or a score of at least 7 on the Speaking section of the IELTS, or have a Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited University in the United States.

    What Makes Us Different

Our program is student-centered. Our former PhD students have won many (inter)national grants, awards, and honors. Many have gone on to take academic positions and earn tenure as well as hold endowed chairs and/or dean positions at diverse institutions around the world.

We keep our program deliberately small-maintaining close to a 1:1 ratio of students to faculty. Once they acquire the skills to do so, Ph.D. students are also encouraged to follow their own research interests rather than be compelled to follow a particular faculty member's.

We support many of our students with continuing scholarships or assistantships as long as they are making good academic progress. We want to help foster student success in our program and their careers.

We deliver the highest quality scholarly training. Our program is challenging and rigorous; it is also engaging and rewarding. If you're interested and want more specific information, please e-mail Dr. Myrtle Bell, Management PhD Coordinator.
