    Collegiate Professor of Technology Entrepreneurship (Non-tenure Track)

    The Department of Management in the Pamplin College of Business at Virginia Tech invites applications for a Collegiate Professor position with demonstrated research and teaching expertise in technology entrepreneurship and innovation management. This is an open-rank search, and a candidate's experience and credentials will be the basis for the determination of the rank of appointment. The faculty member will teach courses related to entrepreneurship, innovation, and technology management.  This is a non-tenure track position and not intended for tenure transfer but advancement in rank is achievable. Multi-year contracts are available.

    The Department of Management consists of 25 full-time faculty members with an impressive range of research and teaching expertise across the field of management. The department currently offers numerous Undergraduate, Master's, and Ph.D. courses in entrepreneurship, technology, and innovation management. Entrepreneurship is one of the three concentration options within the undergraduate program in Management. The department also has an Interdisciplinary Minor in Entrepreneurship and New Venture Growth. Graduate programs include emerging options in digital entrepreneurship and innovation in the Master's of Information Technology (https://vtmit.vt.edu), as well as in the Professional and Executive MBA Programs.

    Virginia Tech's recent announcement of a $1B+ Innovation Campus in Northern Virginia (https://vt.edu/innovationcampus/index.html) is a key part of a long-term strategy to build <g class="gr_ gr_80 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_disable_anim_appear Grammar only-ins replaceWithoutSep" id="80" data-gr-id="80">world-class</g> research and educational programs in technology entrepreneurship and innovation in emerging areas such as artificial intelligence, blockchain, and cybersecurity (https://vt.edu/cci-blueprint/index.html). These initiatives are supported by a growing number of public-private partnerships between Virginia Tech and other organization such as the Commonwealth of Virginia, high-growth startups, and leading global companies.

    The Collegiate Professor will interact closely with other members of the transdisciplinary Stakeholder Committee on Creativity and Innovation of Virginia Tech. Creativity and Innovation (C&I) is one of the transdisciplinary areas of focus within the Virginia Tech Destination Areas (https://www.provost.vt.edu/destination_areas/areas_of_focus/da_ci.html) designed to enhance cross-disciplinary research and teaching relating to complex problems that impact the human condition. Part of the mission of the C&I focus area is to build and strengthen creative communities, support economic development, and enhance <g class="gr_ gr_101 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_disable_anim_appear ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace" id="101" data-gr-id="101">quality-of life</g> opportunities through self-sustaining and entrepreneurial activities.

    The Collegiate Professor position will be based in the Blacksburg campus, which is located near the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Appalachian Trail. Blacksburg's beauty and temperate climate are attractive to many. Blacksburg is ranked as one of the top places in America to raise children. Blacksburg also has high-quality schools (K-12) as well as a relatively low cost of living. Additional opportunities to teach in several highly ranked graduate programs based in our Northern Virginia Campus are also possibilities for qualified candidates.

    The Collegiate Professor will be expected to teach between 12-18 credit hours per year, and the actual teaching load will depend on the candidate's research portfolio and future performance. The Collegiate Professor is expected to publish articles and materials on technology entrepreneurship and innovation in high quality academic and practice-oriented outlets.

    Required Qualifications: A Ph.D. degree in Business Administration or in a related field. Evidence of research in entrepreneurship, innovation, technology management, or related areas.

    Preferred Qualifications: Ph.D. in Business Administration with an emphasis in technology entrepreneurship and/or innovation management. Candidates with STEM-related Ph.D.'s are encouraged to apply as long as the candidate has proven work experience in technology entrepreneurship and/or innovation management. Other preferred qualifications include:

    • Demonstrated success in teaching at the collegiate level in entrepreneurship and/or innovation management.
    • Demonstrated success in publishing both peer-reviewed, academic research on technology entrepreneurship and/or innovation management topics in academic journals as well as in practice-oriented outlets.
    • Demonstrated success in managing technology-based startups in new, corporate, or public sector ventures.
    • Demonstrated experience with interdisciplinary teaching and/or research in areas that align with Virginia Tech's university-wide, multidisciplinary focus on creativity and innovation
