MACRO TALENT MANAGEMENT: LATEST DEVELOPMENTS  IN A NASCENT FIELD

This PDW aims to engage Academy members in an interactive discussion of macro talent management (MTM) – the context, processes and practices which influence the availability and quality of talent at the national level. This PDW will build on very recent scholarly research on the topic of MTM, where a team of 45 academics from around the world have illustrated the external environment of MTM in 16 countries, explained the processes through which a country facilitates (or hinders) its economic development, increases (or decreases) its attractiveness to global talent, and introduced the outcomes in terms of the country's competitiveness, attractiveness, and economic development that have materialized as a result of the MTM processes.  In doing so, these scholars have analyzed both the implications of MTM activities and recommendations for individuals, organizations, policy makers, and presented country-specific opportunities for further MTM research.

This workshop extends this recent work by bringing together a number of leading scholars in MTM to engage members in a facilitated discussion which aims to: 1) deepen knowledge and understanding of how MTM systems operate in developed, emerging and emergent economies, and the significance of MTM; 2) identify the role played by a country's educational philosophy, competition policies and innovation strategies in helping create industry-leading firm-level capabilities; 3) explain the existence of   multiple dynamic paths to effective talent management at a macro level; and 4) explore the role played by country, regional and city-specific factors which create effective conditions and outcomes for talent at the macro level.
