    Please help us recognize your colleagues' excellent work!

    The Health Care Management (HCM) Division is seeking nominations for three of our most distinguished awards. Deadlines for submitting nominations is April 30, 2021, at 11:59PM ET.

    Nomination Materials: Anonymous nominations will not be accepted, but individuals may self-nominate. As per the HCM by-laws, nominations for any of the three awards should include:

    1. a nomination letter that articulates the nominee's contributions and accomplishments relative to the award;
    2. the nominee's current CV;
    3. at least two impartial letters commenting on the nominee's qualifications to receive the award; and
    4. specific examples of the nominee's work or achievements that offer further indication of that individual's appropriateness for the award in question, which includes:
      1. copies of two published articles for the Provan Distinguished Scholar Award (required)
      2. teaching evaluations for the Excellence in Teaching Award (required).

    See below for details about the awards and award-specific eligibility requirements and nominating procedures.

    Keith G. Provan Distinguished Scholar Award

    The Award: The Keith G. Provan Distinguished Scholar Award recognizes a member of the HCM division who has developed a record of high-quality scholarly research in health care management. The award winner will receive a plaque and recognition at the 2021 AOM Annual Meeting, which will be held virtually. The winner also will have the honor of giving a keynote presentation during the AOM Annual Meeting as part of the Health Care Management Division's programming.

    Eligibility: The award winner will have contributed to scholarship in health care management through high-quality research. The research may be traditional or innovative, but it must demonstrate conceptual and methodological rigor. Evidence of contribution may take various forms. At a minimum, the awardee will have an exemplary record of publishing high-quality research in major academic journals. The awardee also may have contributed to the field through editorial work, serving either as an editor or editorial board member for major journals in health care management. The awardee's entire portfolio of contribution to and impact on the scholarly field of health care management will be considered.

    Nomination Procedures: Nominations should include the "nomination materials" listed above and be submitted to Ingrid Nembhard (ingridn@wharton.upenn.edu), Chair of the AOM HCM Research Committee.

    Myron D. Fottler Exceptional Service Award

    The Award: The Myron Fottler Exceptional Service Award is considered by many to be the most distinguished award given by the Health Care Management (HCM) Division. It was established to recognize a member of the Division who has provided extraordinary service to HCM and to the profession. It is not an annual award; rather it is given only when the Division identifies a suitable nominee. In the years when an award is given, the winner will be announced at the annual meeting and recognized with a plaque during the Division's business meeting and awards ceremony.

    Eligibility: To be eligible, the individual must have dedicated at least ten years to the HCM Division and profession and must have established a consistently strong presence in the Division over a long period of time. The individual must also have served as a meaningful mentor, not only to colleagues and students at his or her own university, but also to others in the HCM Division. If the individual has served as a Division officer, he or she must have continued active participation in the Division long after serving as a Division officer. (This requirement automatically exempts anyone for consideration while a current officer.)

    Nomination Procedures: Nominations should include the "nomination materials" listed above and be submitted to Brian Hilligoss (hilligoss@arizona.edu) HCM Division Chair-elect.

    Excellence in Teaching Award

    The Award: The Excellence in Teaching Award recognizes innovative and outstanding teaching that takes place in our classrooms and provides the opportunity to encourage, recognize, and reward the work of excellent, dedicated, and inspiring teachers. The winner will be announced at the annual meeting and recognized with a plaque during the Division's business meeting and awards ceremony.

    Eligibility: All members of a University-level academic staff, tenured or on full time contract, are eligible.  Recipients must have been employed in a teaching position for at least three years within higher education. Award winners will not be eligible for re-nomination for 3 years. Self-nominations are acceptable. Individuals who have been previously nominated in the past two years but were not selected to receive the award are automatically included in consideration as nominees for the current year's recognition.

    Applicants will be assessed on the basis of their success in developing effective teaching methods, courses, and/or teaching materials that generate student learning, critical thinking, problem-solving, collaboration, and/or research. Nominees must exhibit: a commitment to teaching health care management; stimulate active, continuous learning; inspire excellence in students' achievements; promote independent learning; and, create an environment for the development of critical and open thought.

    Nomination Procedures: Nominations should include the "nomination materials" listed above and be submitted to Tracy Porter (t.h.porter@csuohio.edu) Chair of the AOM HCM Teaching Committee. Selection will be made by the members of the HCM Teaching Award Selection Committee, an ad hoc committee that is assembled each year within the Health Care Management Division's Teaching Committee.
