PDW Classics of Organization and Management Theory:
Approaches to the Study of Work
    Sunday, August 7, 2022, 13:30 PM - 16:00 PM
Cascade II Ballroom, second floor, Westin Hotel

    Dear Colleagues,

We are happy to invite you to the fourth edition of the PDW Classics of Organization and Management Theory (#843). This edition focuses on different approaches to the study of work. There are growing debates about "the future of work," and this PDW will showcase North-American and European research traditions (the Chicago School and the Tavistock Institute) and bring them into conversation with subsequent approaches which examine the technological and employment aspects of work in and around organizations.

The goal is to facilitate a deeper understanding of the different scholarly traditions in the study of work, their characteristics (research approaches, analytical orientations, key concepts, and ideas), and their analytical value for current research on work, organization, and management.

The Talking About Organizations Podcast sponsors the session. While it is happening only in person in Seattle, all presentations will be made available via this podcast. Details and recordings from previous editions are available on http://www.monteiropedro.com/pdw-classics.html

The event is structured through a mix of expositive and interactive moments. The first part (13:30-15:00) features presentations followed by a panel discussion. In the second part (15:00-16:00), there will be roundtables where participants will be able to interact with presenters. There is no need to register.

    Presenters

    • Steve Barley on The Chicago School
    • Gina Dokko on Employment and Careers
    • Davide Nicolini on The Tavistock Institute
    • Ingrid Erickson on Computer Supported Collaborative Work
