Call for Papers – Special Issue
Submissions are now open for a Special Issue of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion: An International Journal! - Independent Workers : New Challenges for Inclusion
Rethinking Inclusion for Independent Workers: Beyond Traditional Models
As the gig economy continues to grow, millions of freelancers, contractors, and self-employed professionals (Independent Workers, IWs) are reshaping the world of work. Yet, many of our current inclusion frameworks and organizational policies still focus on traditional, in-house employees.
Independent workers often work remotely, outside organizational structures, and without access to networks, decision-making processes, or formal recognition.
👉 How can organizations, managers, and policymakers foster inclusion for workers who are structurally "outsiders"?
👉 What does inclusion look like when there's no team or office culture?
👉 How can EDI frameworks evolve to reflect the realities of gig and independent work?
We welcome submissions that explore topics such as:
✅ Diversity and inclusion challenges for IWs
✅ Social vs. professional inclusion
✅ Organizational and managerial inclusion practices
✅ Policy innovations
✅ Lived experiences and voices from independent workers
🗓️ Submissions open: June 30, 2025
🗓️ Deadline: September 30, 2025
