    HCM Colleagues,
    The AOM HCM Division and its Teaching Committee invites you to join us for this year's HCM Teaching Incubator: Becoming More Effective Instructors (session 290)!  We've had several people reach out to ask if there's availability or a need to register in advance, and we want to clarify: you do not need to register in advance, there IS availability, and we would love to have you join us on Saturday morning (8/10) at 9 AM for roundtable discussions about topics and questions you're interested to discuss when it comes to teaching and becoming more effective instructors.

    We also want to emphasize that the HCM Teaching Incubator PDW is open and welcoming to participants at varied stages of their teaching experiences.  For those who are participating in this year's Emerging Scholars Consortium on Friday, we'd love to have you join us the next morning to talk about teaching and address any questions or issues that are of interest to you.  And for those who have many years of teaching experience, we'd love to have you be a part of our roundtable discussions to share your experiences, your questions, and your perspective!  Truly, the more, the merrier.

    This year's HCM Teaching Incubator PDW will take place on Saturday, August 10th, from 9 to 10:30 AM (Central) in the Cuvee Room at the Fairmont Hotel.  As has been done previously, the PDW is divided into a collection of roundtable discussions devoted to different topics, with Teaching Mentors and participants discussing questions, advice, and issues of interest around specific themes.  For those who would value feedback, advice, reflection, or help with teaching – again, whether you're a first-time instructor, a mid-career teacher wrestling with specific questions or ideas, or an advanced-career educator looking to keep your teaching "fresh" – this PDW will be of particular interest, offering helpful conversations on issues confronted in a range of educational settings by healthcare management educators.

    This year's discussion topics include:

    • Connecting the classroom to the field;
    • How to grow, develop, and find your teaching identity;
    • Navigating politicized and politically infused topics;
    • Teaching in non-traditional modalities and structures;
    • AI in teaching healthcare management;
    • Developing a new course or refreshing an old one;
    • Managing student stress and evolving expectations; and,
    • Towards more diverse, equitable, and inclusive teaching.

    If you have any questions, please contact myself (pshay@trinity.edu) or Peter Martelli (pmartelli@suffolk.edu).  We are eager for your participation and hope to see you there; please join us and spread the word!

    Thank you!
