    The Department of Management at Western Michigan University's Haworth College of Business is accepting applications for a tenure-track assistant professor in the area of Human Resource Management. The appointment begins in August 2020. Teaching responsibilities include the Intro to Human Resource Management course as well as either an upper level compensation course and/or an HR metrics course. There may be opportunities to teach in secondary areas such as organizational behavior, business ethics, and other Management-related topics. In addition to teaching, on-going scholarly activity and publication in peer-reviewed journals is expected, as is service to students, university, and community, commensurate with professional level.

    University

    Western Michigan University's Haworth College of Business is a collegial and vibrant school, accredited by AACSB, and has approximately 4000 undergraduates studying across 18 majors, 3 of which are nationally ranked in the top 10. There are also approximately 250 master's level students in our MBA and MSA programs. Faculty make a concerted effort to offer experiential learning opportunities to their students, building relationships that lead to successful student development and career launch. Faculty across our 6 departments work together through a wide variety of cross-disciplinary and discipline-specific research. There are also 3 Centers of Excellence (i.e.: Center for Entrepreneurial Studies and Innovation, Center for Sustainable Business Practices, the Global Business Center) that provide opportunity for collaboration. 

    Department

    The Department of Management is responsible for majors and minors in Human Resource Management, Leadership and Business Strategy, and Entrepreneurship. We also provide several service courses for the BBA core curriculum. There are faculty members at all ranks (full professors through instructors) from top research institutions (e.g. Michigan, Michigan State, Indiana, Iowa, Arizona State, Boston College, UT-San Antonio, New Mexico State) who enjoy a wide variety of research interests. They also strive to develop fulfilling instructional experiences with their students, with average class sizes of 30-35 in our majors. Our student body is very diverse: approximately 40% women, 20% students of color, and 5% international. Most come from the Michigan – Chicago suburbs area. 

    Kalamazoo

    The Kalamazoo area is a wonderful place to live and raise a family; the city is home to both Western Michigan U and Kalamazoo College, a well-respected liberal arts institution. Many Fortune 500 and other companies are headquartered within a 1-hour radius of Kalamazoo, such as Kellogg, Stryker, Bell's Brewery, Haworth, Herman Miller, Steelcase, Whirlpool, Eaton, and Perrigo, as well as two nationally recognized hospitals, providing ample opportunities to partner with firms in a variety of industries for research, consulting, and student-related benefits.  Several high quality school districts are within 15 miles.

    Qualifications

    Qualified applicants will have 1) a Doctorate in Human Resource Management or a related field by August 2020, 2) demonstrable success teaching in the HRM area, and 3) an established record of or a strong potential for success in scholarly research. Review of applications will start on July 20, 2019, with initial interviews at the AOM meeting in Boston, MA August 9-12th.
