    Fellowship Overview

The Center for Methods in Implementation and Prevention Science (CMIPS) in the Yale School of Public Health and the Yale School of Medicine are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow on Qualitative Methods for Implementation Science in Heart, Lung, and Blood Health Promotion to contribute to research advancing the use and development of qualitative methods in implementation science research. Expertise in implementation science theories, models and frameworks, and/or interest in gaining expertise in these and their application to implementation science are important aspects of this Fellowship. Current projects that may be of interest to applicants include (but are not limited to) qualitative and implementation science research on integration of hypertension screening and treatment into HIV clinics in Sub-Saharan Africa; reduction of cardiometabolic risk through improvements in the workplace food and physical activity environment in India, Nepal and South Africa; developing rapid approaches for qualitative research in global multilingual settings, a systematic review identifying trends and gaps in qualitative methods use in implementation research, and developing qualitative approaches to complement digital health technology implementation. The Fellow will have the opportunity to pursue a Masters in Health Science focused on implementation science through the Yale Medical School, supported by this training grant.

We invite scholars from diverse backgrounds to apply for this Fellowship. The Fellow should be prepared to address critical gaps in knowledge by 1) conducting research to inform the development, implementation, and evaluation of qualitative methods in intervention-based or implementation research focused on the prevention, screening and treatment of heart, lung and blood disorders, 2) innovating new and improved qualitative methodological approaches, and 3) provide technical assistance and training to other scholars, students, and communities in the use of qualitative  and implementation science approaches to research. The primary goal of the Fellowship is to support the further career development of a scholar with the potential to become an innovative research leader working to enhance qualitative and implementation science methods. We seek scholars who can publish at the highest level, reach the widest audience, and impact both their substantive topical field, and the methodological field. The postdoctoral fellow will receive mentorship and support from CMIPS, Yale School of Public Health and Yale Medical School leadership and staff and closely collaborate on projects.

    Requirements

Required qualifications include a Ph.D. in public health, anthropology, sociology, or a related field. Candidates should demonstrate qualitative research skills, experience in qualitative data analysis, excellence in scientific written and oral communication skills, experience or training in qualitative methods, and a strong commitment and passion to advance methods innovation, appreciation for the importance of racial/ethnic diversity in science, and the desire and ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team. Applicants must be US citizens or non-citizen nationals, or individuals lawfully admitted for permanent residence at the time of appointment. Additional details on citizenship requirements are available in the HHS Grants Policy Statement.

The position will be at least 1 year, renewed annually, for at least two years, as interest and funding permit. The position will begin as early as February 2022, but is flexible depending on the candidate's timeline.

To apply, please provide a cover letter outlining qualifications specific to this description, a paragraph outlining two potential ideas for qualitative methods innovation in health intervention research, your academic CV, and the names and emails of 3 individuals who could serve as references via the application portal. This is a 100% FTE position using the standard NIH postdoctoral position salary range.

Any questions related to the position can be directed to Professor Ashley Hagaman, Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences and Center for Methods in Implementation and Prevention Science, Yale School of Public Health, at ashley.hagaman@yale.edu..
