Dear members of the HCM community,

We hope you are all doing well amidst these turbulent times.

With the new academic year well underway, we are all getting increasingly acquainted and comfortable with teaching our classes remotely. However, transferring experiential learning opportunities that rely heavily on relational learning among students and between students and staff remains one of the biggest challenges of teaching online (Greenberg and Hibbert, 2020).

Since it is conceivable that we will be teaching (partly) online for a long time to come, the HCM teaching committee would like to spread some of the best practices that our members use to stimulate meaningful connections with and between students in their online classrooms. If you have found ways to facilitate student engagement and interaction, or if you have tried approaches but they did not work out as you had hoped, please share them with us by replying to this message directly on the Connect@AoM platform or by e-mailing them to d.westra@maastrichtuniversity.nl. We hope to be able to share some of the approaches for the benefit of the entire HCM community.

On behalf of the teaching committee,

    Daan Westra
