Charles Hill is Professor Emeritus at the Foster School of Business, University of Washington where he continues to teach one quarter a year. His teaching responsibilities have included international business, strategic management, and microeconomics. He has received numerous awards for teaching excellence. Professor Hill has published extensively in the academic literature and has over 55,000 citations according to Google Scholar. His textbooks on International Business and Strategic Management have been widely used around the world for over 30 years. In addition to his academic work, Professor Hill has a long history of private work, including a two-decade involvement with Microsoft. Professor Hill is a competitive sailor and his boat, Different Drummer, has twice been the top ranked racing boat in the Pacific Northwest.
Charles Hill is the author of two international business textbooks published by McGraw-Hill: 1) International Business, and 2) Global Business Today. Both texts are written for a survey course in international business. The content includes all major topic areas that have relevance for an international business. Topics discussed are 1) the shift toward globalization and recent countertrends; 2) national differences in political economy and culture; 3) trade and foreign direct investment theory, evidence and policy; 4) the global financial system including the global markets for foreign exchange, equity and debt, and the international monetary system; 5) enterprise strategy and organization in the global environment; 6)  business functions in the global environment including marketing, production, supply chain management, human resources, accounting and finance. Throughout these books in every chapter, the implications of different topics for management practice are repeatedly highlighted.  The primary difference between the two books is that Global Business Today has three fewer chapters and is designed for instructors who do not wish to cover accounting and finance topics, and organization form.
Mike Peng (PhD, University of Washington) is the Jindal Chair of Global Strategy and Executive Director, Center for Global Business at Jindal School of Management, University of Texas at Dallas. He is President of Asia Academy of Management (AAOM), where he is a Fellow. He is also a Fellow of Academy of International Business (AIB) and a National Science Foundation (NSF) Career Award winner. He has served as a visiting professor in Australia, Canada, China, Denmark, Hong Kong, Mexico, and Vietnam. His consulting clients include AstraZeneca, Berlitz, MTR Hong Kong, Nationwide, SAFRAN, Texas Instruments, UK Government Office for Science, and The World Bank. Mike has published 170+ articles, including 70 in FT50 journals. He has 67,000+ GoogleScholar citations and an H-index of 101. As of January 1, 2025, according to GoogleScholar citations, he is ranked #1 in global strategy, #3 in international business, and #9 in strategic management.
Mike Peng's Global Business, Global Strategy, and Global textbooks have been translated into Chinese, Portuguese, and Spanish; and adapted for Europe/EMEA and India/South Asia markets. Global Business (Peng) and International Business (Peng and Meyer-Europe/EMEA adaptation) have:
    • A unified framework focuses on the big question: What determines the success and failure of firms around the globe? (Peng, 2004, JIBS)
    • Every chapter is consistently organized around two core perspectives: the institution-based and resource-based views.
    • Every chapter has a beefy section on debates and extensions.
    • Every chapter has a section "Management Savvy," with implications for action in one table/slide-drawing on rich consulting and Exec Ed teaching experience.
    • Every chapter has short Opening Case and Closing Case: 1-2 pages.
    • Even the longer Integrative Cases are short: 2–5 pages.
    • Overall, significant attention/space devoted to emerging markets/Global South-both competition inside these regions and emerging multinationals from emerging economies.
Gary Knight has taught international business (IB) for nearly 30 years and has lived and worked in many countries. He is President of the Academy of International Business (AIB), the leading academic organization in IB, with nearly 4,000 members. He is Jackson Chair in International Management at Willamette University, and previously professor at Florida State University. He has won several awards, including the Excellence in Teaching Award and Best Teacher in the MBA Program. He has coauthored six books and more than 60 refereed articles. His research emphasizes IB strategy, emerging markets, and internationalization of small and medium-sized enterprises. He is ranked among the top five scholars in the USA and top 15 worldwide in IB research at Google Scholar. Before joining academia, he was export manager of a medium-sized enterprise, directing company operations worldwide. He earned his MBA at the University of Washington and PhD at Michigan State University.
International Business: The New Realities 6e by Tamer Cavusgil, Gary Knight, and John Riesenberger (CKR) comprises 17 chapters emphasizing social responsibility and sustainability, emerging markets and other topical conditions in the global environment as well as the strategies and functions of IB. CKR highlights the role of technology, globalization, and megatrends. CKR features opening and closing cases for each chapter, and the latest material, examples and exhibits, current to 2024. CKR aims to stimulate student interest and reinforce learning via a variety of practical exercises, both in the book and via an innovative digital platform. Consistent with AACSB goals, CKR emphasizes critical thinking and problem-solving skills, as well as career preparation and employability skills. CKR's reading level is straightforward, and developed for early-stage students. Various supplements support IB instructors at every level to optimize teaching and maximize the educational value proposition for students. The authors are among the leading IB scholars worldwide.
Paul Beamish has authored/co-authored 63 books and over 150 refereed articles, with 48,000+ Google Scholar citations to his research. He served as Editor-in-Chief of JIBS from 1993-97, is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and past Dean of the AIB Fellows. Beamish has supervised 36 PhD dissertations. He has co-authored 5 of the now 9 editions of Transnational Management. He worked for Procter and Gamble and Wilfrid Laurier University before joining Ivey's faculty in 1987. From 2000-2016, Beamish also had responsibility for Ivey Publishing. Beamish has authored 165 case studies: 22 have won awards, and 17 have been Best Sellers with Harvard. Over 100 of his cases have been translated into one or more languages. Over 4.5 million copies of his cases have been studied worldwide. In 2010, Beamish established the 39 Country Initiative. It allows universities in the world's 46 poorest countries to use Ivey cases at no cost, (see http://www.ivey.uwo.ca/engaging/39-country-initiative/).
The 9/e of Transnational Management by Christopher Bartlett, and Andrew Delios contains 8 chapters of text, plus four comprehensive cases per chapter. The text captures 1: The Strategic Imperative Expanding Abroad; Understanding the International Context; Developing Transnational Strategies. 2: The Organizational Challenge Developing a Transnational Organization: Managing Integration, Responsiveness and Flexibility; Creating Worldwide Innovation and Learning; Engaging in Cross-Border Collaboration. 3: The Managerial Implications Building New Management Capabilities; Shaping the Transnational's Future. 20 of the 32 cases are new to the 9/e edition. It contains far more award-winning business cases than any published book. There are very comprehensive TNs for all cases. The 9/e contains an updated and expanded deck of new PowerPoint slides, and single slide summaries of the recommended practitioner readings found at the end of each of the chapters. The 9/e test bank has 40 questions per chapter. There is a new curated list of 100 videos which aligned with the cases.
