Bridging the Divide Between Rigorous Research and Relevance to Society, Policy-making and Practice:  Perspectives of AOM Fellows (All-Academy Theme Session # 456 – (Sunday, August 1, 2021  6:00 AM - 8:30 AM EST )

What we do as management scholars matters and is informative for practice.  So why is it not used more in policies and practices?  This All-Academy Theme PDW addresses this important question and, thus, is worth getting up early for if you are in the Americas – a time that is set to be convenient for participants from around the world.

    • Who is Involved: Presenters will be a distinguished and diverse group of AOM Fellows who will share their experiences in bridging the rigor-relevance gap. Participants will be those who want their research to have the impact it deserves.
    • The Motivation:  Social scientists are increasingly asked (and want) to not only do research at the highest scientific level, but also to have that research used – to help public and private sector practitioners. To date, the results have been mixed and this workshop is aimed sharing insights that can help increase our research impact.
    • The Structure: Two panels of AOM Fellows sharing their experiences and advice on (i) how to promote important, rigorous findings that have practical implications; and (ii) how to draw on the problems faced by practitioners to stimulate rigorous research that will be used.  Each panel will be followed by a small group breakout discussion session.
    • The Outcome:  Enhance how knowledge from management research is used in policies and management practice to promote a better world.

We look forward to seeing you there.
