Who Is This Event For?
The 2022 Academy of International Business (AIB) Junior Faculty Consortium will be held on July 6, 2022 from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm EDT. The consortium is designed to facilitate and further the personal and career development of early-stage (post-Ph.D.) academics whose research touches, at least in part, on international or comparative business broadly defined.
The consortium will provide plenty of opportunity for interaction, both among junior faculty participants and between the junior and senior faculty. There will also be time for junior faculty to discuss their research program and/or a specific research project, and teaching development and career plans. The consortium will feature panels with Q&A to learn from senior faculty, and breakout sessions in small groups comprised of both junior and senior colleagues.
All junior faculty members who are active in research and teaching in the broad field of international business are invited to participate. Although preference will be given to those who have obtained their PhD no more than three years ago, the consortium aims to be as inclusive as possible.
Depending on circumstances, the consortium may be held (partially) online. Details and any adjustments will be provided accordingly.
Senior Faculty Mentors
The panel of senior academics for the 2022 Junior Faculty Consortium will consist of distinguished international business scholars with extensive research, teaching and service experience and publication records, and broad perspectives on academic careers. The panelists are selected to cover the range of interests of IB scholars, with special attention to the IM community. A partial list of scholars who have already committed to serve as panelist or mentors to the JFC participants includes Tina Ambos (HEC Geneva), Vit Henisz (Wharton), Pursey Heugens (Erasmus U), Nan Jia (USC), Aseem Kaul (U of Minnesota), Felipe Monteiro (INSEAD), Arzu Wasti (Sabanci U) and Changqi Wu (Peking U and Shandong U); others will be announced later.
How Can I Apply to Participate?
To apply, please e-mail the following two documents to aib-jfc@tilburguniversity.edu by January 31, 2022:
- A one-page CV listing your educational background, research accomplishments and interests, what courses you have taught or are interested in teaching, and other information you deem relevant;
- A one-page description of your research program, highlighting a current paper or ongoing project on which you would like input, making sure to specify the international or comparative business aspects of the work.
Please send these as two separate Microsoft Word documents, with your surname and forename in the file title (e.g., LastnameFirstnameBio.docx and LastnameFirstnameResearch.docx). Kindly use "AIB JFC 2022 Application" as the subject line for your message.
Accepted participants will later be asked to fill a "career trajectory" form as a basis for further feedback from other participants.
A Few Travel Stipends Are Available
Due to the generous support of the Boeing Institute of International Business, Saint Louis University, a few travel grants are available for participants in need of financial support to attend the consortium.
If you would like to apply for one of these travel stipends, please include a separate letter with your consortium application, stating your request to be considered for this financial support. The letter should include the following information:
- An estimate of your travel costs, specifying the city and country from which you will be traveling;
- An indication of what travel funds (if any) are likely to be available from your university;
- Whether you are currently an AIB member; and
- Whether you have previously received a travel stipend from AIB.
