Aston Business School, located in the heart of Birmingham - England's second largest city - seeks to appoint a highly motivated, ambitious academic with the ability and interest in providing excellence in research, teaching and impact in the field of International Business. We are looking for a strong candidate at either the lecturer (grade 8-9 scale) or senior lecturer level (grade 10).

We are very much open to scholars who have a background in any area of International Business but our department generally has an applied focus, using quantitative techniques. IB has always been very strong at Aston and we are one of the UKs leading providers of UG and PG programmes (https://www.aib-uki.org/teaching.html). Colleagues publish regularly in top IB journals: JIBS, JWB, JIBP and IBR and our research has won numerous awards at leading IB conferences. Although IB does not feature in the title of our department it will continue to be a prominent part of our activity. Our current IB scholars typically have a strong economics background and utilise econometrics as their preferred methodology but this does not mean we are not open to scholars who use a diverse set of research methods.

The holder of this post will influence the future direction of the Economics, Finance and Entrepreneurship Department in areas of research, the development of taught programmes at UG and PG level, PhD & DBA supervision and external engagement (https://www2.aston.ac.uk/aston-business-school/research/departments/efeg/index). In particular, we seek individuals who can teach Advanced International Business at both the UG and PG level and who can supervise PhD students in the field. We would also be very interested in a candidate that has led IB programmes and has been a course director in the past and someone who can ensure that the curriculum is at the forefront of the research frontier.

Academics with an interest in any area of IB would be desirable. Typically though, our IB scholars have had success across 4 themes: (1) International entrepreneurship and dynamics of internationalization of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs); (2) Foreign direct investment (FDI), tax havens, merger and acquisition (M&As), outsourcing and offshoring; (3) Productivity and performance, and high growth firms; and (4) Knowledge management, innovation, and property rights. Many of us utilise large firm-level datasets and the department subscribes to ORBIS a large firm-level dataset. If you have experience using ORBIS this would be a desirable attribute.

We would encourage any interested candidates to look at our department's staff profiles (https://research.aston.ac.uk/en/organisations/economics-finance-and-entrepreneurship) to see if there are synergies with their current and future research.

A certain degree of preference will be made to candidates who will actively contribute to our research centres: (1) Lloyds Banking Group Centre for Business Prosperity (LBGCBP) in the areas of international trade and the UK productivity challenges; (2) Enterprise Research Centre (https://www.enterpriseresearch.ac.uk/); and the Centre for Research in Ethnic Minority Entrepreneurship (https://www2.aston.ac.uk/aston-business-school/research/research-centres/CREME). However, we are also very much interested in candidates who have research interests that lie outside of our areas of expertise that could have significant future potential, especially with respect to attracting future funding and impact.

For informal discussions relating to this post please contact the Head of Department: Professor Chris Jones; Tel: +44(0) 121 204 3036; email: C.JONES2@aston.ac.uk.

Please Note: Redeployees will be given priority consideration for vacancies.
