Turkish-German University (TDU), whose establishment has been considered a "Lighthouse Project" of the German-Turkish university cooperation is supported by both the German and the Turkish government. The university was founded on the basis of a government agreement in 2010 and started teaching in the 2013/2014 winter semester. The TDU is a state research university with a special profile, planned with a medium-term size of 5,000 students and doctoral candidates, with a three-level study system (BA, MA, PhD) in five faculties:
Engineering, natural sciences, economics and administration, law, cultural and social sciences.
38 German universities and the DAAD, which have joined in a consortium, are at TDU's side as partners. The German language, study and practical stays in Germany and a significant proportion of German teaching staff are important features of the TDU that contribute to its particular attractiveness.

The strategic further development of the faculties is carried out in close coordination between the respective responsible Dean's office, a German subject coordinator working at the faculty and the respective responsible German partner university. The University of Cologne is the responsible German partner university for the Faculty of Business and Administration. The Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences is responsible for the business administration course.
