Leading with emotional intelligence could become a panacea for many of the major problems that organizations face today as they are navigating through significant challenges such as great resignation, COVID-19, and return to physical work, among others. How would an emotionally intelligent leader look like in the midst of this chaotic era we are going through? COB Organizational Wisdom Studio features a collection of five experimental film-projects exploring this question.
These 8-minute comedy films are produced by Human Resource Management students in a class on Leading with Emotional Intelligence at the Sacramento State University. Each film has a plot created based on a well-grounded leadership theory to seek solutions for today's pressing problems.
This episode features the film titled "COVID Apocalypse" (2020), produced by Team Zoomtopia, which explores Path-Goal Leadership Theory as it relates to emotional intelligence. The film illustrates how social isolation can increase employees' anxiety, particularly when they are asked to return to physical workplace in COVID-19 period, based on a story illustrating work relationships in a hand-sanitizer company. The film then shows how emotional intelligence can help leaders effectively perform a leadership style needed to address their employees' work-related challenges.
In a subsequent commentary session Professor Sigal Barsade, a world-leading researcher from the Wharton School, interviews with co-hosts Ms. Elisabeth Nunziato and Professor Hakan Ozcelik to provide theoretical and practical insights about how leaders can effectively address employees' emotional challenges in a pandemic.
