    Dear colleagues,

Please join us to learn together about managing our and others' emotions in academic and business environments, while developing our consciousness. Improving lives by developing self awareness of faculty and future business leaders.

Session 11802, Friday August 9th, 2:45 to 4:45 - Boylston, Boston Marriott Copley Place

Dr. Tom E. Culham - Simon Fraser University, Dr. Eleftheria Egel - Navigating coaching and consulting, Dr. Payal Kumar - BML Munjal University, Ms. Elizabeth Luckman - University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Dr. Richard J. Major - Institut de Gestion Sociale, Dr. Richard Peregoy - University of Dallas

Have you ever been confronted with emotional outbursts and reactions in professional group settings? We believe self-awareness is needed more than ever for business and classroom leaders. Emotions arise in organizational settings, though professional norms expect us to be exclusively rational, neglecting entire dimensions of our human experience and interactions. The more we train ourselves to be aware of emotional states, - both our own and others -, the better we will be at recognizing them and self-regulating our inner attitude and our behaviors.

Faculty and business leaders' emotional states influence and impact relationships, motivation, learning and performance.
By demonstrating self-awareness of our emotions, we can model positive leadership abilities for future and existing leaders.

The purpose of this PDW is to understand and appreciate that people's emotional state interferes with learning, decision-making and interpersonal communication and to advance participants' skills developing self-awareness, and their abilities to acknowledge and address their and others' emotions. This will be accomplished in this workshop by sharing experiences and modelling behaviors in a safe group setting.

Emotions make us human, they are embodied. Spiritual experiences are deeply emotional. We believe it is time to learn working with emotions through deliberate practice. When we make room for emotions in our daily work, we acknowledge the spiritual dimension of our work life.

This session will practice working with emotions and self-awareness for participants to exercise positive behavior. Key take-aways from this session would be:

    • Understanding emotional work by sharing organizational situations and experiences,
    • Embodying this understanding through practice in a safe group setting,
    • Being inspired to disseminate self-awareness to our students, tomorrow's managers.

The workshop format will mainly concern interacting in small groups, with a succinct theoretical introduction. Sharing will emerge from the cluster tables to provide collective intelligence all can benefit from.

We are looking forward to meeting you for a couple of hours of positive professional development,
