  • 1.  Online cross cultural simulations/video games?

    Dear colleagues,

I am trying to find virtual experiential activities to help my mostly white and middle class Undergraduate American students understand the influence of culture on communication preferences and/or workplace interactions. The content would be shared in an Organizational Behavior or Leadership type course.

If you have had success in using a video gaming tool or virtual reality, I would love to hear from you.

I'm happy to compile resources and share them with all who respond. Virtual activities with a short learning curve and that could be presented and completed within a few weeks time would be ideal.

    Thanks in advance,

Hi Kelly - I'm throwing out ideas here to be helpful.  I suspect there are others who can reply with more concrete suggestions.  We haven't used this but have been considering it seriously.  If you have the budget, you should look at the Harvard Global Collaboration Simulation.  The computer system simulates a number of different communication & collaboration challenges that will definitely give those playing a real world experience.  Perhaps others who have used it can provide more feedback.  But it's worth exploring.  Another alternative is to partner with a colleague at a school abroad and have teams collaborate on a project.  This takes more time and effort on your part to create and coordinate.  I'm looking forward to seeing other ideas pop up.
