Inclusion and Diversity Postdoctoral Position for the Department of Management

    Job Description

The Department of Management at Colorado State University is seeking to hire a post-doctoral fellow for academic years 2019-2020 and 2020-2021.  Responsibilities include teaching four 3-credit courses total during their two year tenure and working with faculty on diversity and inclusion research.  Candidates should have their dissertation completed by August 2019 and must demonstrate strong potential in both research and teaching. Of particular interest are candidates who have a deep commitment to diversity and inclusion and a desire to work on research with our esteemed faculty.

The post-doctoral fellow position provides an excellent opportunity for an emerging scholar to develop and extend their research program while gaining valuable teaching experience. Post-docs are highly encouraged to collaborate with departmental faculty, to benefit from teaching seminars offered by TILT and the College of Business, departmental research seminars, and to draw from the wide variety of intellectual resources available at CSU.

All applicants should have a Ph.D. in organizational behavior, human resource management, or a related field such as psychology. The position will likely be especially attractive for individuals who have a background in organizational behavior or management or a psychologist (e.g., social, I/O) with organizational interests who would like to transition to a business school.

Applicants should submit (1) a cover letter, (2) a research statement describing their research interests, accomplishments, and fit with the faculty at CSU in HR and OB, (3) a C.V., (4) a teaching statement, (5) evidence of teaching effectiveness, and (6) three letters of recommendation. All inquiries should be sent to Lynn Shore. Items 1-5 should be submitted by March 7th, 2019 in order to receive full consideration. Colorado State University conducts background checks on all job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent offer. Background checks will be performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Colorado State University is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer.

    About the Faculty

Diversity and inclusion have become increasingly important goals at CSU. The Department of Management has research and teaching experts in this area, specifically, Lynn Shore, Chris Henle, Samantha Conroy, and Tiffany Trzebiatowski. The College of Business is seeking to improve the inclusion experiences of students of all social identities, and we expect the postdoc to add to our ongoing inclusion efforts both in the classroom and in co-curricular activities. The postdoc will add to our successful and productive faculty group focused on diversity and inclusion research. We are committed to mentoring our postdoc to enhance their career opportunities.

Lynn Shore, who is the most senior scholar in the group, has conducted research on diversity and inclusion since the beginning of her career in 1985. More recently, she has published a seminal article on workgroup inclusion (Journal of Management, 2011, cited by 534 according to Google Scholar), followed by a series of articles and chapters on inclusion. Lynn has worked as a Senior Consortium Fellow, Army Research Institute for the Behavioral and Social Sciences, to craft an inclusion program for the army, was a founding member of the Diversity and Inclusion Theme Committee and was on the executive committee for the Gender and Diversity Division of the Academy of Management (our international professional association). She also founded the Institute for Inclusion and Diversity in Organizations at San Diego State University, committed to research, teaching, and outreach pertaining to inclusion.

Tiffany Trzebiatowski's research stream focuses on diversity, discrimination, and threats to identity. Specifically, she has examined gender diversity on corporate boards and the detrimental consequences of discrimination to individuals. Her recent work uncovers how diverse individuals integrate with the majority to understand how organizations can be more inclusive. Tiffany currently serves on the executive boards of the Diversity and Inclusion Theme Committee and the Gender and Diversity in Organization's Division.

Samantha Conroy's research focuses on social identities and equity issues in organizations, each important considerations in understanding diversity and inclusion. She collaborates extensively with other faculty in the CSU College of Business to publish on topics that include social identities at work (Conroy, Henle, Shore, & Stelman, 2017, Journal of Organizational Behavior), compassionate organizations (Becker, Conroy, Djurdjevic, & Gross, 2018, Emotion Review), and researching organizational issues in the field (Maynard, Conroy, & Lacerenza, 2018, Industrial and Organizational Psychology: Perspectives on Science and Practice). She is also on the Executive Committee of the Human Resources Division of the Academy of Management.

Chris Henle's research focuses on how organizations can achieve diverse and inclusive workplaces by curtailing employment discrimination. For example, her recent research examines family responsibility discrimination (FRD), discrimination against job applicants or employees because of their family caregiving responsibilities for young children or older family members. Her work identifies when FRD is most likely to occur in hiring and starting salary decisions and how organizations can avoid it through practices such as unconscious bias training and blind hiring.
