The Work and Organization Studies (WOS) group, together with the Economic Sociology (ES) Program, at the MIT Sloan School of Management is looking to fill a post-doctoral position for the academic years of 2019-2020 and 2020-2021.   Responsibilities over the course of the two-year appointment include being part of the WOS and ES intellectual communities at Sloan, conducting high-quality research, and helping teaching some of the main courses related to work and organization studies.   Currently, the WOS has teaching needs in the negotiations and organizational processes.   This post-doctoral position is aimed at emerging scholars with an excellent opportunity to continue developing their research programs beyond the completion of the PhD while at MIT.

WOS is a relatively new academic group that merged two former academic groups at Sloan, the Organizational Studies Group and the Institute for Work and Employment Research.   As such the WOS faculty is interdisciplinary and the candidate will have the opportunity to engage with scholars from a variety of disciplines: sociology, organizational behavior, industrial relations, psychology, and political science.   (For more information about our group, go to: https://mitsloan.mit.edu/faculty/academic-groups/work-and-organization-studies/about-us).

The Economic Sociology Program has substantial overlap with WOS, sharing some of the same faculty, but also including faculty who do research that touches on strategy, entrepreneurship, and innovation.   It is primarily responsible for the Economic Sociology PhD Program.   It also has two ongoing research seminars --- a work-in-progress "brownbag" type seminar --- and a joint workshop with Harvard that has many prominent outside speakers.   The group places heavy emphasis on research, aimed at focusing on the general mechanisms of social organization.   (For more information about our group, go to: http://mitsloan.mit.edu/phd/program-overview/esp/)

We welcome graduates completing their degrees in sociology, macro organizational behavior, industrial relations, or other fields who (a) would benefit from being a part of our economic sociology community; and (b) can teach organizational processes or negotiations to masters' students.   Candidates are required to have their Ph.D. at the start of their employment.

Please submit applications electronically at http://apply.interfolio.com/61458 providing a cover letter outlining interests and experience, a current CV, and two papers that indicate your research focus and capabilities.   Applicants should also arrange for two letters of recommendation to be submitted via this link.   Applications are due April 19, 2019 and will be reviewed upon receipt.   Questions should be directed to Virginia Geiger at vgeiger@mit.edu.

MIT is an equal opportunity employer committed to building a culturally diverse and pluralistic intellectual community and strongly encourages applications from women and minorities.
