Description:
The Department of Management and Insurance & Risk Management (MGTI) of the Marilyn Davies College of Business (MDCOB), at the University of Houston-Downtown (UHD) invites applicants for an assistant-level, tenure track position in Management with focus in Human Resource Management (HRM) / Organizational Behavior (OB), to begin fall 2019.
The MDCOB is accredited by AACSB and enrolls 2,500+ undergraduate and 1,100+ graduate students. The MGTI Department houses 23 faculty members, 15 of which are tenure/tenure track. Currently, the department offers majors in management as well as insurance and risk management, in addition to minors in human resource management, insurance & risk management, management, operations management, project management, and small business management.
The ideal candidate should be student-centered, utilizing pedagogical approaches that emphasize practical application. In addition, the ideal candidate should exhibit a strong commitment to scholarly research in their discipline and a willingness to work with others in promoting the advancement of the university.
The selected candidate will have teaching responsibilities including but not limited to combinations of the following courses: foundations of human resource management, compensation and benefits, training and development, staffing, strategic human resource management, leading people and teams, and leadership in organizations. MBA level instruction may also be required.
Given the needs of MDCOB students, successful candidates must be willing to teach a variety of days, times, and modalities (i.e., face-to-face, online, and hybrid formats). Faculty are expected to teach courses offered at the primary campus located in downtown Houston, as well off-campus locations located in suburban Houston.
Qualifications:
Candidates for the position should have a terminal degree in Management or related field with a focus in HRM and/or OB (ABDs will be considered).

In a first stage, interested individuals must submit only a curriculum vitae and a letter of application specifically addressing why they are a good fit for the position, the MDCOB and UHD. Applicants selected to move to the second stage of the process will be requested to submit evidence of teaching effectiveness, samples of scholarship, unofficial transcripts, and a list of references. Review of candidates will begin on October 22nd and will continue until the position is filled.
