Tenure Track Assistant Professor Position in Human Resources, Management, or Organizational Theory

The DeGroote School of Business, McMaster University, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the Human Resources and Management Area, beginning July 1, 2019.

We are seeking an individual who will expand the breadth of scholarship in our department. Applicants should have strong training in Human Resources Management (Strategic HRM, HRM Analytics), Organizational Theory, or Management, and possess a PhD in a relevant discipline.  We also invite individuals engaged in innovative scholarship related to the management of organizations that bridges or transcends conventional disciplinary categories.

The successful candidate will develop and maintain a grants-supported program of research leading to publications in high quality journals.  Support provided by the school includes funding for research and conference travel as well as a reduced teaching load during the first years of the appointment. The appointment will include supervising PhD students and teaching in our PhD, MBA, and/or executive development programs.  The specific courses assigned will depend on the candidate's expertise and may include one or more of strategic human resources management, HR analytics, organizational theory, management skills development, organizational behaviour, negotiation, and leadership.

The Department's current faculty members-Vishwanath Baba, Catherine Connelly, Rick Hackett, Benson Honig, Teal McAteer, John Medcof, Erin Reid, Joe Rose, Aaron Schat, Willi Wiesner, and Isik Zeytinoglu-are engaged in research in organizational behaviour, industrial relations, human resources management, organizational theory, technology management, and/or entrepreneurship.  Their publications have appeared in the Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Strategic Management Journal, Organizational Studies, Organization Science, Journal of Management, Journal of Management Studies, Journal of Applied Psychology, Journal of Organizational Behavior, and the Harvard Business Review.

McMaster University was ranked 66th (3rd highest of Canadian universities) in the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) in 2017 and 78th in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings (4th highest in Canada).  The DeGroote School of Business operates at two campuses, the McMaster University main campus in Hamilton, Ontario and a new state-of-the-art facility in nearby Burlington, Ontario, housing the MBA and executive programs. Successful candidates are expected to be active at both locations.

All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and permanent residents will be given priority. The search begins immediately and the deadline for applications is September 8, 2018.  Earlier applications are encouraged as short-listed candidates may be invited for preliminary interviews at the August 2018 Academy of Management convention.
