    ** Apologies for cross-posting **

    Dear colleagues,
We cordially invite you to our PDW session:

Careers in the Rough: Research Development Workshop
    Friday, Aug 10 2018
    5:30PM - 7:30PM
Sheraton Grand Chicago (Sheraton Ballroom IV)

Careers in the Rough offers PhD students and junior scholars who submit manuscripts in the field of careers research a chance to have their work reviewed by leading scholars in the field. Scholars who moved the careers literature forward, have strong publication records, and are familiar with the challenges involved in publishing high-impact research, will support their junior colleagues. This goal will be reached by reviewing their manuscripts in a roundtable discussion format and by offering constructive support and guidance that is aimed at making their research relevant for careers research and practice. Moreover, scholars can provide constructive feedback regarding potential publishing outlets. Each roundtable is hosted by two scholars and will include either two or a single manuscript, therefore allowing for a more personal communication. This session will also offer an important opportunity to discuss some core principles, practices, and insights of publishing careers research within career-specific journals versus more general management and applied psychology journals. Participants will therefore consolidate and extend their insights from the roundtable discussions and will be able to network with prominent career scholars, many of whom serve as review board members and journal editors.

This workshop is now open to observers/discussants. Observers, after choosing which roundtable discussion they wish to join (see list below), will receive access to manuscripts discussed in a selected roundtable and will be asked to actively participate in it.

Everyone interested in participating as an observer/discussant is asked to send the name of a roundtable discussion they wish to participate in via e-mail to Igor Bartolec at i.bartolec@fs.de by July 31. We are no longer accepting manuscripts for an inclusion in roundtable discussions.

    List of available roundtable discussions:

    • Roundtable 1. Early careers and their outcomes
    • Roundtable 2. Mentorship and supervisor support in careers
    • Roundtable 3. Careers of expatriates and their adaptability
    • Roundtable 4. Career calling and career outcomes
    • Roundtable 5. Antecedents and outcomes of interorganizational changes
    • Roundtable 6. Employability and work-related learning
    • Roundtable 7. Relationship support and career goal attainment in politics
    • Roundtable 8. Career adaptability and performance
    • Roundtable 9. Parental perfectionism and fear of failure in innovations

This PDW is proudly organized and sponsored by the Careers Division and co-sponsored by the Organizational Behavior and Human Resources Divisions.

We look forward to welcoming you!

    Kind regards,
Igor Bartolec, on behalf of all organizers and facilitators
