    Dear Colleagues,

As part of a larger project, Michael Parke, Sofya Isaakyan, and I are conducting a meta-analysis of voice and silence and two related antecedents-perceived impact and psychological safety (see definitions below). We have reviewed existing literature and are seeking to supplement with unpublished data.

We are interested in ANY of the following 5 relationships:

    • Voice and silence. We are interested in actual reported behavior rather than willingness or intention.
    • Voice and perceived impact. When considering impact we include, but are not limited to, measures of impact, futility, influence, instrumentality, power, status, organizational based self-esteem, and leader or manager openness.
    • Voice and psychological safety. When considering safety, we include, but are not limited to, measures of psychological safety, risk perceptions, fear, and workplace punishment.
    • Silence and perceived impact
    • Silence and psychological safety.

    Definitions:

    • Voice: discretionary communication of ideas, suggestions, concerns, or opinions about work-related issues with the intent to improve organizational or unit functioning
    • Silence: purposeful withholding of ideas, questions, concerns, information, or opinions by employees about issues relating to their jobs and the organizations in which they work
    • Perceived impact: employees' belief that they can impact/sway key work decisions in their organization
    • Psychological safety: a belief that one is able to show and express oneself without fear of negative consequences

To be included in our meta-analysis, a study must contain a correlation at the between-person level (i.e., cross-sectional data, longitudinal data, or within-person data aggregated to the between-person level).

If you have any work that you think might be relevant to us, including published papers, working papers, conference presentations, PhD or master dissertations, or other unpublished data, please email me directly at Elad_Sherf@kenan-flagler.unc.edu if you are willing to share. Thank you for your assistance.

    Kind regards,

    Michael, Sofya, and Elad
