Assistant Professor of Urban/Regional Studies and Planning
(Tenure-track)
The VCU L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs Urban/Regional Studies and
Planning Program invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor. Applicants must have a
Ph.D. in urban and regional planning or a related field by the time of appointment (ABDs will be
considered subject to demonstration of timely progress towards degree completion and the completion of
all requirements for the PhD degree before the start of the appointment).
Our interest is in productive scholars and researchers with an active research agenda in the field of
environmental planning focusing on topics such as climate change adaptation, coastal planning and
resiliency, and environmental social movements who show a commitment to high-quality instruction and
contribute to the strength and diversity of our faculty. We are especially interested in candidates who
have an expertise in the social impacts of environmental issues, bring a global perspective to
environmental planning, and/or approach environmental planning with a focus on diversity and equity.
The faculty will complement and expand our existing expertise in the field of Urban and Regional
Planning.
Successful candidates join an accredited program and teach within the Bachelor of Urban and Regional
Studies, Master of Urban and Regional Planning, certificate in Sustainability Planning, and may
contribute to the Ph.D. in Public Policy and Administration. The candidate will be expected to carry a
teaching load of four 3-credit courses a year (2/2), including core and elective courses at both the
graduate and undergraduate levels. The selected candidate will demonstrate leadership in developing
techniques to meet the needs of students with diverse learning styles and intellectual interests, while
also participating in service activities in the School and in relevant communities. For additional
