    SMJ Dissertation Paper Development Workshop

    2024 SMS Conference, Istanbul

    Call for Applications

We are excited to announce the inaugural SMJ Dissertation Paper Development Workshop, to be held at the 2024 SMS conference in Istanbul on Saturday, October 19, from 1p.m. to 4 p.m. The workshop is intended for PhD students who are close to completing their dissertation or junior faculty who have a paper from their dissertation that they are interested in developing further for submission to the Strategic Management Journal. The focus of the three-hour workshop will be engaging with members of the SMJ editorial team to get one-on-one feedback on your paper. In addition, participants will get an opportunity to engage in a panel discussion with the SMJ Associate and Co-Editors to discuss reviewing for SMJ as well as any other questions related to the publication process. Mentors will read your paper in advance and provide you with personalized feedback along with answers to questions you have about submitting papers to SMJ.

Applying for the workshop requires submitting a current working paper from your dissertation with your application. If you are accepted, we will assign your paper to one or two mentors who are either current or recent SMJ Associate Editors or experienced members of the SMJ Editorial Board.

The SMJ Paper Development Workshop is open to advanced PhD students and untenured faculty members (including postdocs, assistant professors, and lecturers) who have a current working paper from a dissertation. An application is required.

    Your application should include:

    1.      A current CV (please note the title of your dissertation on your CV)

    2.      The most recent version of a paper from your dissertation that you are planning to submit to SMJ (the paper should not be under review at SMJ or another journal).

    3. For current PhD students, a letter from your PhD advisor certifying that you have defended your dissertation proposal.

Applications should be submitted here: [SMJ Dissertation Paper Development Workshop] by July 30, 2024.

Note: Submitting an application implies that you will be available for the entire duration of the conference and will attend the workshop if accepted. We expect the selection for the workshop to be competitive. Priority will be given to advanced Ph.D. students and junior scholars whose papers best fit the expertise of SMJ's editorial team.

If you have any questions, please contact any of the SMJ Co-Editors or the co-organizers at smjdissertation@gmail.com
