2022 Division PDW Program: Call for Submissions

The Technology and Innovation Management (TIM) Division invites innovative proposals for pre-conference Professional Development Workshops (PDWs) within the Academy of Management Annual Meeting, which will be held hybrid from 4 to 10 August 2022. PDW sessions provide excellent opportunities for exploring emerging research questions or methods, trying out new workshop formats, and fostering conversations on important but understudied phenomena.

They can take a variety of formats––methods workshops, tutorials, debates, roundtable discussions, town hall meetings, to name a few––and address ideas or phenomena that might not (yet) fit in the regular program. PDW sessions are also intended for professional development of the participants, so their engagement is essential. We aim for a program of highly innovative, interactive and diverse PDWs.

The Technology and Innovation Management Division is a vibrant community of scholars stemming from a variety of fields and disciplines broadly interested in innovation, research and development, and the management of technology-based organizations.

We encourage innovative and inclusive designs that focus on a variety of topics including, but not limited to:

    • Uncertainty and decision making in innovation and entrepreneurship

    • Digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and machine learning

    • Platforms, ecosystems, and emerging business models

    • Sustainability and social responsibility in innovation contexts

    • Open innovation and intellectual property

We also invite submissions related to the AOM 2022 conference theme "Creating a Better World Together." Many organizations and the world's social structures have been vastly challenged, and, in some cases devastated, by the COVID-19 global pandemic and the broad social unrest of the last couple of years. Technology and innovation have played a massive role in navigating these challenges and they certainly will continue to do so as the "new normal" emerges, helping managers and organizations handle uncertainty.

Acceptance of proposals for TIM PDWs will be based on (a) relevance to the interests of the Division's membership; (b) novelty and creativity; and (c) plans for creating an interactive, inclusive and engaging session. We also welcome proposals that identify other Divisions and Interest Groups as co-sponsors, although that is not a requirement for acceptance.

We look forward to receiving your proposal. Submit your proposal electronically through the AOM Submission Center. The Submission Center will open on December 2, 2021. Early submissions are encouraged.

The submission deadline is Tuesday, 11 January 2022 at 17:00 (5pm) ET (NY Time).
