    #STRongerTogether: Career Path Initiative (3rd session)

    When:  Dec 2, 2021 from 16:00 to 17:00 (CET)

    Join us for the latest session of the STR Career Path Initiative – aiming to illuminate and legitimize non-academic career alternatives for strategy scholars. Such alternatives include, but are not limited to, roles as consultants, policy makers, or strategists in tech firms, VCs, or non-governmental organizations.

    In our next session, we will speak with consultants who have left the consulting world to join academia to hear their opinions about the two industries and a candid perspective on joining consulting for PhDs or professors.

    The event will take place on December 2nd at 5pm CET on Zoom. Registration is required.

    STR Career Path Initiative

    The dominant career path followed by STR members is one at an academic institution – only 4.14 percent of all STR members are non-academics. STR Career Paths initiative aims to illuminate and legitimize career paths alternative to the dominant one. Such alternatives include, but are not limited to, roles as consultants, policy makers, or strategists in tech firms, VCs, or non-governmental organizations. Several issues impel this initiative:

    • Supply of Strategy PhDs will likely outstrip demand within academic institutions;
    • Improved connections between the strategy research and practice might enrich teaching and provide access to data to conduct research;
    • A need to illuminate and legitimize alternative career paths; and
    • Strategy scholars are often looking for sabbatical opportunities and/or ways to engage with their expertise while maintaining their academic positions.

    We look forward to having you join us!
