The next frontier: Interplay of organizational structure and firm's cooperative strategies
Dear Colleagues,
Please join the SMS Cooperative Strategy IG Panel Session on the "Interplay of organizational structure and firm's cooperative strategies."
While alliances and their collective properties are often praised for helping firms exchange critical resources with their external environment, they are notoriously hard to manage. Maintaining a set of alliances comes at a price: the firm needs to exchange resources and coordinate with several partners who regularly have conflicting motives. Anecdotal evidence from several industries, including life sciences, suggests that a firm's structure could shape this coordination cost. How do informal and formal structures of firms interact with their cooperative strategies to affect their performance?
The panel explores positive and normative aspects of this issue in discussion with scholars who have different yet complementary views. We are also joined by Diana Flaminzeanu of Bayer Pharmaceuticals, who will share her perspective and experience in managing cooperative strategies in the life sciences industry.
