The Management Department at Appalachian State University invites applications for a nine-month tenure-track faculty position(s) at the rank of Assistant/Associate beginning Fall, 2022. A research, teaching, and/or service focus in the area of sustainability in business is required.  Professional experience in sustainable business will be taken into consideration.

Candidates for this faculty position will possess an orientation towards breaking down functional silos, boundary-spanning, and developing innovative and applied solutions to connect our future business leaders to a rapidly changing business environment. We are seeking faculty who are enthusiastic and engaged, and who embrace sustainability and multi-stakeholder value creation.

Appalachian's leadership in sustainability is known nationally, evidenced by its Strategic Plan entitled "The Appalachian Experience: Envisioning a just and sustainable future."  Further, "The Walker College of Business at Appalachian is committed to advancing sustainable business practices that promote responsible management of economic, social, and natural resources." The Walker College is an AACSB-accredited business school, and in 2019 was featured in The Princeton Review's edition of Best Business Schools.

The College's Department of Management is the largest department within the Walker College, which itself has the largest business school enrollment in the 17-campus UNC system (approximately 3,000 students). The department offers a host of undergraduate and graduate degree programs, and is proud to direct the university's Sustainable Business minor program.

Candidates must have potential to be excellent teachers dedicated to student learning, active researchers publishing in refereed journals, and participating members of the university, professional, and local communities. Candidates for Associate Professor must have an established record of excellence in teaching, engagement in service, as well as scholarly activity.

As sustainability becomes more imperative in business strategy and operations, the ideal candidate will also have experience and interest in curriculum (re)design and development, whose purpose is to further sustainable theory and practice to meet the needs of diverse stakeholders across the department's offerings.

A Ph.D. in Business or a closely related discipline is required. Candidates who are ABD will be considered, but the position requires completion of all doctoral requirements by the effective date of the appointment. Instructional duties and responsibilities include three classes per semester.  Faculty members are expected to maintain an active program of scholarship as well as participate in service activities.

Please send your application materials (consisting of a cover letter, curriculum vitae, evidence of teaching and scholarship effectiveness, and contact information for three references) to Jim Westerman, Search Committee Chair at https://appstate.peopleadmin.com/postings/30092
