    The Saunders College of Business invites applications for the Department Chair position within the Department of Management, which is broadly positioned at the intersection of technology, innovation, and management. Applicants must be at the level of associate or full professor and meet the tenure requirements of the college. Applicants must have a demonstrated record of excellent scholarly achievements in the form of publications in elite journals within their field. Additionally, applicants will demonstrate leadership experience in working with faculty members from multiple disciplines and Ph.D. students, and the ability to enhance engagement with external stakeholders including employers, alumni, and advisory board members. The anticipated start date for this appointment is September 1st, 2022 or January 1st, 2023.

    We are seeking an individual who can contribute to a community committed to advancing high-impact research and scholarship; help fulfill teaching needs; support student-centeredness; promote diversity and pluralism; demonstrate integrity and ethics; and work collaboratively. The ideal candidate will lead collaboratively by engaging all of the relevant stakeholders in supporting the needs of the department and college, thereby executing the department's vision and strategic priorities, while leveraging the college's and RIT's strengths in the area of technology innovation. The ideal candidate will help pre-tenured faculty achieve success in research and teaching through mentorship and support.

    The chair will report to the Dean of the Saunders College of Business and be responsible for oversight of the department's academic programs, including curricular review and assessment; faculty coordination; budget management; program marketing; student recruitment; and engagement with external stakeholders for partnerships and sponsorships. The chair represents the department to students, alumni, faculty, administration, and industry partners.

    THE COLLEGE/ DEPARTMENT:         

    The Saunders College of Business (SCB) is accredited by AACSB International and served by more than 65 full-time faculty members. SCB offers bachelors' degrees in Business Administration with nine different majors. Graduate programs include an MBA, Executive MBA, and Master of Science in several disciplines, including Technological Innovation Management and Entrepreneurship, Global Supply Chain Management, and Organizational Leadership and Innovation (online). In addition, pending NY state approval, SCB will launch a Ph.D. in Business Administration program in the Fall of 2023. The college is on an upward trajectory with 35000 sq. ft. new building expansion scheduled to open in Fall/Spring 2023-24, as well as increasing program rankings and research productivity.  Saunders is ranked in the top 100 by US News and World Report.

    The Department of Management is the largest in the college with 25 faculty members; 20 tenured/TT and 5 lecturers. The department includes multiple disciplines: organizational behavior and leadership, global business, entrepreneurship, decision sciences, and supply chain management. The Department of Management houses BS and MS programs in Global Business Management, Organizational Leadership and Innovation, Technology Innovation Management, Entrepreneurship, and Supply Chain Management; these undergraduate and graduate programs are offered at RIT's campuses in China, Croatia, and Dubai. Additionally, the department will house (pending NYSED approval) a Ph.D. concentration in strategy and innovation. 

    SCB faculty greatly value collegiality and teamwork, as evidenced by the high level of collaboration within and across departments. Department of Management faculty publish in elite journals, such as Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Organization Science, Strategic Management Journal, Journal of Operations Management, Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Business Logistics, European Journal of Operations Research, Entrepreneurship, Theory, and Practice, and Journal of Business Venturing. Faculty have also served as the Associate Editors of journals such as the Journal of Organizational Behavior, Journal of Business Ethics, and Journal of Purchasing and Supply Chain Management.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Ph.D. with a focus in one of the disciplines housed within the dept., or a related field.
    • Demonstrated record of high-impact research publications.
    • Demonstrated teaching effectiveness and service at the university level.
    • Evidence of ability to lead both within the department and at the college level.
    • Ability to communicate and interact effectively with all constituencies including students, faculty, staff, alumni, administration, and industry partners.
    • Demonstrable professional communication, presentation, and writing skills.
    • Ability to contribute in meaningful ways to the college's continuing commitment to cultural diversity, pluralism, and individual differences.
