The SIOP Consortium Committee invites you to join us at the 2023 SIOP Consortia on Wednesday, April 19th in Boston! For the first time in three years, the doctoral and early career faculty consortia will be held fully in-person.
Doctoral Consortium
The doctoral consortium is designed for last-stage students interested in thriving in the dissertation process, navigating the job market, making a positive impact on our science as a peer reviewer, and maintaining productivity and well-being in their professional life. Specifically, the consortium will focus on four major topics important for successfully completing a PhD program and launching a career in academia or practice.
1. Navigating the Dissertation Process
- Presentations by Yi-Ren Wang (Asia School of Business Malaysia) and Charlene Zhang (Amazon)
2. Navigating the Job Market
- Academic panel by Keaton Fletcher (Georgia Institute of Technology), Michael Wilmot (University of Arkansas), Anna Goddolei (Baruch College, CUNY), and Mark Ehrhart (University of Central Florida)
- Practitioner panel by John Capman (Amazon), Toni Locklear (APTMetrics), Leah Tecle (Walmart), and Desmong Leung (SHL)
3. Productivity and Well-being
- Roundtables by Erin Eatough-Cooley (BetterUp), Matt Howard (University of South Alabama), Elliott Larson (Siena Consulting), Marcus Dickson (Wayne State University), Nitya Chawla (Texas A&M University), Marino Mugayar-Baldocchi (McKinsey), Enrica Ruggs (University of Houston), Victoria Mattingly (Mattingly Solutions), Evan Sinar (Amazon), and Isaac Sabat (Texas A&M University)
4. A Reviewer Bootcamp, led and facilitated by the Journal of Applied Psychology's editorial board (see further below)
Anyone interested in attending the doctoral consortium must register by March 15th and secure a nomination from their program chair (no formal letter of recommendation is needed). Early Career Faculty Consortium
The early career faculty consortium is designed for pre-tenure faculty interested in learning from recently tenured and senior academics, and networking with other junior faculty. The consortium will focus on four major topics important for navigating a successful academic career including:
1. Teaching Undergraduate and Graduate Courses. Award-winning teachers and scholars present advice for effectively managing teaching responsibilities while fostering an engaging classroom. Panelists include David Costanza (George Washington University), Leslie DeChurch (Northwestern University), and Isaac Sabat (Texas A&M University).
2. Surviving and Thriving through the Promotion and Tenure Process. Recently tenured faculty discuss how to navigate the tenure process and build a strong dossier. Panelists include Charles Calderwood (Virginia Tech), Kristen Jennings Black (University of Tennessee at Chattanooga), Sabrina Volpone (University of Colorado Boulder), and Don Zhang (Louisiana State University).
3. Research and Pipeline Tips & Tricks. Panel of research-active scholars provide tips and tricks for developing a research pipeline while balancing other responsibilities. Followed by round-table break-out groups. Panelists include Mark Erhart (University of Central Florida), Jessica Magnus (University of North Carolina Wilmington), Roni Reiter-Palmon (University of Nebraska Omaha), and Cort Rudolph (Saint Louis University).
4. Finally, the Journal of Applied Psychology will lead a reviewer bootcamp for both consortia aimed at preparing early career scholars to write constructive and high-quality reviews. Participants will be matched with a member of the JAP editorial team to receive personalized feedback on a review.
