Postdoctoral position, New York University School of Global Public Health

    Location: Washington Square Campus, NYC

    Description
The NYU School of Global Public Health (GPH) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Associate in the Department of Public Health Policy and Management to join an NHLBI-funded project on implementing teams in small primary care practices. This position provides training in implementation science, health services research, and research on teams. We seek candidates with exceptional potential who will contribute to and benefit from GPH's commitment to develop and train public health leaders with the critical thinking skills, acumen, and entrepreneurial approaches necessary to reinvent the public health paradigm. GPH aims to improve health worldwide through a unique blend of global public health studies, research, and practice. We seek candidates whose diverse life experiences will enhance and contribute to our institution's educational, research, and public health practice goals.

    Project
Team-based care is the provision of health services by at least two health providers who work collaboratively to accomplish shared goals within and across settings to achieve coordination. Numerous studies have demonstrated that team-based care is an evidence-based strategy for managing hypertension, the most prevalent modifiable risk factor for cardiovascular disease among U.S. adults. However, despite the effectiveness of team-based care, small primary care practices experience significant barriers to implementing team-based care processes. The study evaluates the use of practice facilitation as a strategy to support and sustain the use of team-based care for hypertension management in small-medium sized independent primary care practices, and is a collaborative effort between NYU and the NYC Department of Health.

The Postdoctoral Associate will work closely with Dr. Donna Shelley, Dr. Ji Chang, and Dr. Alden Lai on analyzing qualitative and quantitative data, co-authoring and leading scholarly manuscripts, and presenting findings from the study at conferences. This is an excellent opportunity to develop an independent program of research and to connect with a wide network of scholars and practitioners who work on implementation science, health services research, and/or health care management at NYU (e.g., the NYU Global Center for Implementation Science) and in the NYC area.

Drs. Shelley, Chang, and Lai will also work closely with the Postdoctoral Associate on their professional development needs throughout the fellowship. We expect the fellow to qualify for competitive academic or research-intensive positions upon completion of the program.

    Terms of Appointment
The start date may be flexible, but in no case may an appointment extend beyond August 2023. Postdoctoral Associates are expected to dedicate full-time effort to research and related activities, and to participate in school and departmental activities. Although there are no teaching requirements associated with these positions, Postdoctoral Associates are expected to present their work in departmental or other school seminars and programs including but not limited to diversity programs at GPH. Teaching or employment at another institution during the period of postdoctoral support is prohibited.

    Benefits
The postdoc will be appointed as "Postdoctoral Associates" and will receive a postdoctoral salary, plus a research allowance ($2,500). Compensation is subject to appropriate taxation. The University also provides a benefits package, including medical and dental coverage.

    Qualifications
Individuals who meet one of the following criteria are eligible to apply:
    • Must have obtained doctoral degree no more than three years prior to the start date, or
    • Must have completed all of the requirements for the doctoral degree (including defense and deposit of the final version of the dissertation) by the start date.
    • A doctoral degree in public health (PhD, DrPH) or equivalent (e.g., PharmD, MD, EdD) in any of the disciplinary areas related to the project above, or in related disciplines (e.g., sociology, psychology, social work, health services, policy).
Priority is given to applicants who do not currently hold postdoctoral fellowships or traineeships. The ideal candidates for these positions show evidence of outstanding scholarly achievement (honors, awards, publications), a demonstrated commitment to research that values diversity, equity, and inclusion; a clear mentorship plan; and promise of continuing achievement as public health scholars.

Applicants for postdoctoral associate positions must be available to work and to be physically present at GPH, which is located on the New York City campus of New York University. These positions may not be filled remotely.
