    We would like to bring your attention to our panel symposium at the Academy of Management Annual Meeting on:

    Bringing Intersectionality into International Management Research: The Case of Language and Gender

    Date: Sunday, August 7th

    Time: 11:00 AM Pacific time

    Location: Virtual [Zoom "webinar" style]

    Abstract:

    International management researchers consider language and language diversity to be at the "heart" of organizations (Brannen, Piekkari & Tietze, 2017), yet a vast majority of research has assumed language to be static and linear in its effects. In this panel symposium, we draw from intersectionality to discuss how we can move beyond the study of language as a single-issue struggle and study its intersections with other identity processes within MNCs.

    Therefore, in this panel symposium, we engage a group of panelists in a moderated, interactive discussion of:

    (1) the relationship between "language" and "gender" identities and effects on individual and organizational processes;

    (2) the implications of ignoring the role of gender in current language research;

    (3) the importance of drawing from intersectionality in IM research; and

    (4) how the combined effects of language and gender can be measured.

    Panelists include:

    • Jackie Ford - Durham University, U.K.
    • Suzanne Gagnon - University of Manitoba, Canada
    • Estefania Santacreu-Vasut - ESSEC Business School and THEM, France
    • Amir Shoham - Temple University, U.S.A.
    • Helene Tenzer – Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, Germany
