Call for Papers: Dynamics of International Business

Elizabeth L. Rose, AIB Insights Associate Editor (Indian Institute of Management Udaipur, India)

AIB Insights is a peer-reviewed journal publishing Actionable International Business Insights. Short, topical, thought-provoking articles should be akin to written "TED Talks", with an applied/actionable focus that is heavy on insights, but light on references, jargon, and methods. These insights must be relevant to the international business community of researchers, practitioners, policy makers, and educators. With this call, we invite submissions that offer novel and applied insights for addressing the dynamics of international business.

The current global business environment is increasingly dynamic, creating a need for stakeholders such as firms, NGOs, and governments – and their leaders – to reassess how operations are conducted both across borders and within home markets that are increasingly influenced by global events. Major players in the global economy are being pushed to reassess their processes, to be more adaptive to unexpected changes. Moreover, the abilities of companies and governments to deal with dynamics may differ based on factors at levels including the country, the firm, and even individual managers. This special issue of AIB Insights will focus on developing actionable insights for stakeholders to address dynamic issues affecting international business, consistent with the theme for the 2024 Academy of International Business conference. We invite applied submissions that are broadly associated with this theme.

Below is a list of illustrative topics:

    • What advice can we provide to multinational managers to help them to deal with dynamic changes affecting their operations?
    • How can firms from emerging and developing markets adapt their processes to better address changes in their international contexts? How do institutional differences between markets affect firms' abilities to adapt to dynamic conditions?
    • Is process adaptation multidimensional? What types of process changes are likely to be needed by MNC leaders and government policy-makers in the coming years?
    • How will dynamic process issues interact with other challenges that MNCs face in the next decades? What can managers do to address these developments?
    • What can policy-makers do to assist firms to develop more effective dynamic processes?
    • What can policy makers do to ensure that nations' institutional environments remain robust in the wake of dynamic change?
    • What can educators do to ensure that future MNC managers and government policy-makers possess the capabilities needed to succeed in dynamic international business environments?
