About Us - Careers Division

Welcome to Careers Division (CAR)

Serge da Motta Veiga, CAR Chair

This is what we do: The Careers Division (CAR) of the Academy of Management supports research, teaching, and practice focused on people's lifelong succession of work experiences, the structure of opportunity to work, and the relationship between careers and other aspects of life.

Our major research interest topics include: individual career development; career management strategies; career planning; career outcomes (success, plateauing, derailment); relationships between human resource systems and careers; life cycle interactions with work; race, culture, and gender effects on careers; labor force diversity; internal labor market structures and functions; cross-cultural careers; and effects of demographic and social changes on work.

This is how we do it: Our volunteers work in small committees to support our members with information, news and activities throughout the year. These are the elected representatives-at-large and non-elected volunteers (V) serving in the 2023-2024 committees. Please reach out to them to find out more. (Committees listed below).

A warm hello: Hi and welcome to the Careers Division. We are a small friendly Division that supports each other in our professional, scholarly, and community endeavours. We look forward to seeing you at an event or activity. Please reach out to any of us if you have any questions or would like to become involved in the Division.
