Is anyone aware of any studies that have used business plans and their content as a data source?  Thanks in advance.

Yes, I believe that David Kirsch at the University of Maryland (http://www.rhsmith.umd.edu/management/faculty/kirsch.aspx) has a few thousand plans that he rescued from the collapse of a dot com era law firm.  There are many restrictions around how this database is used, and of course it is now more than ten years old...but it is the largest of its kind that I know of.
