  • Welcome to the HCM Community

The HCM Community is open and welcomes its members to make announcements that were previously shared through the HCM ListServ. You can learn more about AOM Connect using the link provided below.

HCM's general policies regarding announcements in the HCM Community are as follows:
    • Messages must include the sender’s contact information, including name, institution, email address, and phone number.
    • Requests to participate in surveys are not allowed.
    • Announcements for non-AOM events and conferences may only be posted once.
  • Tips to Get Started in the Community

The strength of our community depends on the contributions of our members! Here are two quick and simple tips to help members get started:
    Interact with other attendees
It's easy to join the conversation! View the latest Discussion Posts to see what other registrants are talking about, and reply if you have something to contribute. Or post a message to start your own discussion thread on a topic that interests you. Some ideas might include:

    • Is this your first meeting? What do you most want to know about AOM?
    • If this is your 2nd, 5th, 10th meeting (or more!), what is the most important advice you can give new members?
    • Which PDW or paper session are you looking forward to and why? What do you hope to learn?
    • Do you want to get attendees talking about your PDW before the conference starts? Ask an interactive question or start a preliminary debate on your topic!
    Choose how you connect
All annual meeting registrants are automatically subscribed to receive a "Daily Digest" notification from the Academy of Management Annual Meeting community. This means that you'll get one email each day containing all of the previous day's posts. You may elect to change this frequency to real time, weekly digest, or no emails, allowing you to join the conversation at your leisure. Visit your "Community Notifications setting" to select your email preferences.

    Published by William L. Sparks

This article examines the legacy and impact of Jerry B. Harvey on the field of organizational behavior in general, and on the author specifically. After a cursory review of some of Harvey’s most well-known and controversial writings, or “meditations” as he called them, the author recounts a very personal episode with Harvey during his time as a doctoral student at George Washington University. A detailed account of the exchange between teacher and student is provided, and the broader implications of this experience are explored.
