X-Culture is a large-scale international collaboration project designed to provide students with an opportunity to experience first-hand and learn best practices of cross-cultural and global virtual collaboration. Launched in 2010, the X-Culture project has been growing steadily reaching about 3,000 students from over 80 universities in 40 countries on all inhabited continents (as of 2014). Working in global virtual teams of around seven students, each member from a different country, project participants develop an international business proposal for a real company of the team's choice. About a dozen companies from six countries partner with X- Culture every semester and present their real-life challenges. The student teams then have a semester to provide their suggestions for addressing the challenges. Experiential learning is carried out between classes. Therefore, X-Culture educators face the challenge of helping students transform experience into learning without traditional lectures. In this PDW X-Culture professors will share their experiences in connecting interactive learning tools to a global project.
