    2016 Iberoamerican Academy of Management

Professional Development Workshops at Academy of Management Meeting (Anaheim, CA)

    August 5-6

    Call for Proposals

The Iberoamerican Academy of Management (IAM) invites the submission of creative proposals for its Professional Development Workshop (PDW) sessions that will take place at the Academy of management meetings  August 5-6 in Anaheim, California. The Academy's PDWs are a great platform for colleagues to share knowledge and expertise and foster the professional development of workshop participants. The IAM´s two primary objectives are: First, to foster the general advancement of knowledge in the theory and practice of management among Iberoamerican scholars and/or those academics interested in Iberoamerican issues; and second, to perform and support educational activities that contribute to intellectual and operational leadership in the field of management within an Iberoamerican context (for further information on IAM, please visit our Web site: http://www.iberoacademy.org/).  IAM gives emphasis to its Iberoamerican focus, but is open to integrate participants, dialogues, and proposals from different perspectives and backgrounds to enrich its objectives.

Consistent with this year's conference theme, "Making Organizations Meaningful" we would like to suggest some potential topics that may be of interest to a broad audience:

    1.    How can organizations create working environments that are meaningful to a broad range of employees, including Latinos?

    2.    How are Latino/a entrepreneurs creating meaning for themselves and their customers by starting new businesses?  What factors facilitate or hinder the creation of Latino-owned businesses?  What is the economic impact of Latino-owned businesses in the US and other countries?

    3.    What is the impact of Iberoamerican demographic shifts on economic development and organizational design? For example, Latinos represent over 70% of the labor force growth in the US from now until 2020.  Also, high unemployment rates in Spain have resulted in a flight of young talent to other European countries and beyond. What are the implications of these trends?

    4.    How can management scholars and practitioners improve the visibility and importance of Iberoamerican issues and research?

    5.    Are there any meaningful differences between individuals from Iberoamerican backgrounds in terms of cultural traits, personality dimensions, values, etc?  If so, what are the implications of these differences for management and leadership research and practice?

    6.    What economic, demographic and cultural challenges and opportunities exist within Iberoamerican countries?

We also welcome any proposals that advance theory, research, education, and practice in the field of management within the scope of our objectives. The formats of PDWs can take a variety of forms including round tables, panel sessions, developmental workshops, practitioner focused sessions, and doctoral consortia, to name a few. We look forward to your proposals and to your active participation in the IAM PDWs in Anaheim.
