    Special Issue Call for Papers for Multinational Business Review

    Theme 'Value Creation in Latin American Business: From Innovation to Performance'

     

    Classic theories of firm internationalization posit that organizations must have firm-specific or ownership advantages that allow for foreign expansion. With the rise of emerging market multinational enterprises (EMNEs), scholars increasingly question these theories (e.g. Cuervo-Cazurra & Genc, 2008; Hennart, 2012; Hernandez & Guillen, 2018; Luo, Zhao, Wang & Xi, 2011; Madhok & Keyhani, 2012).

     

    To further inform this debate, research is needed on the factors that underlie internationalization processes. More specifically, we posit that analysis of how firms create value allows for enriching our understanding of internationalization processes. This requires studies at the firm and within-firm levels of analysis that address interaction with the business environment, organizational functions and processes that sustain firm capabilities, and strategic decisions made by specific actors.

     

    This special issue of the Multinational Business Review (MBR) focuses on how firms create value in international business in Latin America. We call for papers that address the processes, choices and actors that sustain international firms' development and leveraging of capabilities to achieve performance, domestically and abroad. Possible topics of interest include but are not limited to:

     

    • Firm interactions with institutional actors in home or host business environments
    • Drivers of firm performance in international business
    • Decision making processes related to international business
    • The roles of entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs in internationalization processes
    • Individual interests and agendas in the internationalization of family businesses
    • Management of innovation as a driver and/or consequence of internationalization
    • Management of specific business functions (e.g. marketing, finance, operations, IT) in internationalization processes

     

    This special issue of MBR is guest edited by AIB-LAT, the chapter of the Academy of International Business that brings together academics and researchers who share an interest in business in Latin America and work in or hail from the region. AIB-LAT aims to contribute to filling the void of management research that focuses on Latin America as compared to other geographical regions, including other emerging market economies (Nicholls-Nixon et al. 2011; Vassolo, De Castro & Gomez-Mejia, 2011). Consequently, submissions should either offer uniquely Latin American theoretical perspectives or employ Latin American data in a novel way.

     

     

    Submission Details

    • We encourage the submission of papers that are both concise and rigorous. Manuscripts (including title page and references) should not exceed 40 pages.
    • While we prefer empirical papers, conceptual papers are welcome as well.
    • Submissions should be prepared using the MBR Manuscript Preparation Guidelines, including the MBR style guide.
    • Manuscripts should be submitted by 30 November 2018 using the MBR website (https://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/tmbr)
    • Please make sure you select the Special Issue 'Value Creation in Latin American Business' in step 6 of the submission process.
    • Manuscripts will be reviewed according to the MBR double-blind review process.
