    Dear colleagues,
We are pleased to invite submissions for an upcoming PDW at the Academy of Management Annual Meeting focused on advancing research on strategic engagement with non-market stakeholders.

Organizations increasingly operate in environments shaped not only by market forces but also by diverse non-market stakeholders, including NGOs, social movements, advocacy groups, lobbying firms, and local communities. These actors shape legitimacy, resource access, public perception, and regulatory conditions, while firms develop strategies to navigate these increasingly complex environments.

Through a two-part PDW, including a panel and a paper workshop roundtable, we aim to bring together scholars across strategy, technology & innovation management and organizational theory to advance our understanding of how firms engage with non-market stakeholders and how these interactions shape organizational outcomes.

PanelistsSi (Coco) Cheng (Copenhagen Business School), Christoph Grimpe (Copenhagen Business School), Shon Hiatt (University of Southern California), Mary-Hunter McDonnell (Wharton School of Business), Kate Odziemkowska (Rotman School of Management), Kunyuan Qiao (Northeastern University)

For our paper workshop, we invite submissions that engage with (but are not limited to) the following themes:

    • Founding stakeholder relationships, organizational imprinting, and long-term strategic outcomes
    • Firms' collaboration with advocacy groups and stakeholder activism for innovation
    • Reputational, legitimacy, and regulatory pressures in contested non-market environments
    • Institutional change and firm strategy

We welcome early-stage ideas, working papers, and projects in development. Submissions will be used to facilitate a developmental roundtable session, where participants will receive feedback from panelists and peers. We encourage submissions from doctoral students and early-career scholars, as well as those working across varying empirical contexts.

    Submission requirements:

    • A brief extended abstract (1 page) outlining your research question, theoretical framing, and (if applicable) empirical context
    • Your CV

Deadline: Please send your submissions to Paolo Carioli (pc.si@cbs.dk) and Vilma Chila (v.chila@uva.nl) by June 19th 11:59 PM CET.

We look forward to fostering engaging conversations around non-market stakeholders and their implications for firm strategy, innovation, and organizational outcomes.

    All the best,
    Paolo Carioli and Vilma Chila
