Are you a junior faculty member or an advanced doctoral student trying to get your paper to the next level? Have you run into challenges to publish your work in leading academic journals? Do you want to get your work ready to submit to next year's AoM, EGOS, and/or AIB meetings (and get accepted)? Would you like to develop your network of research-active management scholars in Latin America? If you responded 'yes' to any of these questions, we would like to invite you to the IAE Academic Writing Camp.
IAE Business School is pleased to announce its first Academic Writing Camp, to be held from 13 to 15 November 2023 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. We have invited Prof. Gerardo Patriotta (Univ. of Bath, UK), Consulting Editor at Journal of Management Studies, Prof. David Courpasson (EM Lyon, France), Associate Editor at Academy of Management Annals, and Prof. Roberto Vassolo (IAE Business School), Co-Editor in Chief at Long Range Planning, to facilitate the following agenda:
Day 1:
· Welcome session
- General introduction: Theorizing
- Problematizing
- Developing a research question
- Theory, theoretical contributions, and theory building
· Paper development – Individual writing
· Writing Buddy Session – Feedback
Day 2:
- Crafting a powerful introduction to your paper
- Novelty and convention in academic writing
- Text building strategies
- The role of the reader
- On the shoulders of giants: Writing the literature review
- Writing as joining conversations
- Integrative vs problematizing reviews
- Connecting the review with my study
· Paper development – Individual writing
· Writing Buddy Session – Feedback
Day 3:
- Writing the discussion section
- Connecting with theory
- Articulating contributions of your study
- Addressing the 'so what?' question
- Navigating the review process
- How journals work
- Assessing a paper's contribution
- Understanding editor and reviewers' comments
- Common reasons for rejection
· Paper development – Individual writing
· Writing Buddy Session – Feedback
The IAE Academic Writing Camp is open to participants at all career stages. However, we consider that advanced doctoral students and junior faculty are likely to benefit the most. We request you send an expression of interest to Victoria Comisso (vcomisso@iae.edu.ar). Along with your e-mail, please, send the following materials:
· Working Paper or extended abstract that you intend to develop
· Academic CV
Please note that the capacity is limited to 20 participants. Attendees will be selected based on their application.
There is no registration fee for attending the IAE Academic Writing Camp, but participants will be responsible for expenses related to travel, lodging, meals, and local transportation. We will suggest a hotel with a preferred (discounted) rate and will gladly assist you with any suggestions.
